Hi, Jim Nesselroad here.
We are twinking a 15th lvl magician and 15th lvl enchanter. We are trying to buy a few focus effect items. How do they combine? For instance- if we get Black Alloy Medallion (Mana preservation II for 10%) and Grey Flesh Gloves (Affliction Efficiency II for 15%); are these mana savings additive? multiplicative? Would this be a savings of 25% on nuking spells, or would this be a savings of 15% from max reduction item only, or 100pct times .85 then times .90 = .77pct

I see the mana savings on each spell isn't much but over time would be excellent.

Anyone got a prize twink package? Say items under 2000pp or total package under 20,000pp? We figure we can get Earrings of the solstice for mana regen, and the mana preserving items. Then its on to the best intelligence pluses and the best mana pluses.

Quote:
Focus Effect: Affliction Efficiency II
1: Decrease Spell Mana Cost by 25%
2: Limit: Max Level(44)
3: Limit: Spell Type(Detrimental only)
4: Limit: Min Duration(30.00 sec)
5: Limit: Effect(Hitpoints allowed)

In other words 25% mana reduction on DoTs only (level 44 and under)

Quote:
Focus Effect: Mana Preservation II
1: Decrease Spell Mana Cost by 10%
2: Limit: Max Level(44)
3: Limit: Spell(Complete Healing excluded)

In other words 10% mana on ALL spells (level 44 and under)

If you have both you will get 25% savings on DoTs and 10% on everything else.

As far as Focus Effects from Items you will only get the effect of the single best item for that spell per type of focus. You could have a Mana preservation focus and a Improved damage focus and get 10% less cast cost AND 20% damage at same time

Quote:
Focus Effect: Improved Damage II
1: Increase Spell Damage by 20%
2: Limit: Max Level(44)
3: Limit: Effect(Hitpoints allowed)
4: Limit: Instant spells only
5: Limit: Spell Type(Detrimental only)
6: Limit: Target(AE PC v1 excluded)
7: Limit: Target(PB AE excluded)
8: Limit: Target(Targeted AE excluded)
9: Limit: Target(Uber Giants excluded)
10: Limit: Target(Uber Dragons excluded)

For instance Wurm Scale Coat

Hi, Jim Nesselroad here.
Here's an inexpensive way to get some focus effects combined for nuking:
Neck- Black Alloy Medallion (mana pres 2 saves 10% mana)
Ear- Earring of the Solstice (Flowing Thought I increases mana regen)
Range- Book of Tactics (Improved damage 2 adds 10 or 15% dmg)
finger- Naki's ring spell summoned (15% spell haste)

Saw extended enhancement item that I will get for the enchanter too. its a ring (forget which)

Good luck shopping! err, Twinking!

I had the same ideas when I started my necro. I've got several Focus effects on my necro linked below.

Instead of the Black Alloy Medallion, the Fine Antique Ring offers the same Effect but at a much cheaper price. The parts for the quest together shouldn't cost more than 100 pp in the bazaar (probably 75 actually), and since they are all not nodrop you can collect them all with your main; it's only the combination box and the final item that are nodrop. Assuming you have all the expansions up to and including PoP it's a good quest.

Of course if you already have your Fingers slots filled then never mind.

Game on,
