Can someone please answer this about Tribute?Follow

#1 Jun 14 2005 at 12:07 PM Rating: Decent
Not really sure about how this work and had a couple questions I was hoping someone could explain.

First, I have DoN but not GoD. I can contribute to guild tribute points by handing in items in the Guild Hall. How do I activate/use the Tribute buffs?

Also, I thought there was a personal tribute NPC or something for personal only Tribute, do I have to have GoD for that?

Just not sure how to toggle tribute on and off, any help would be appreciate.

Thanks in advance,

Jehti

First of all, I'm not positive that you can use the tribute benefits without GoD. Someone else may can answer this for you.

As far as guild tribute goes, you have to make sure you are "opted in" by using the guild tribute NPC in guild hall.

There is also personal tribute with which you can donate items/plat to purchase different benefits. You have to go to the NPC tribute master in your home town to donate and/or purchase benefits. Once you have it set with the benefits you want you can turn them on or off by ALT-U (i think).

You got the meat of it.

for personal,

go to home town

find on tribute master

click on him

donate stuff

select the effects you will want to use in battle. there are two buttons on the selection window, one to increase the level you want for the effect one to decrease the level.

you need to be at least 20 to even talk to the guy.

effects have minimum levels and will be greyed out if you are too low to pick them

as you increase the level of your selection, the level to have it increases, so you cannot take anything all the way to the top unless you have the levels to back it up.

the selection window will show the total cost of activating your current effect configurataion.

you can only have 5 all together
-----------------

Out in the field, you call up the window, click activate, and all the effects you chose will kick in. You are charged every 10 minutes, so if you are like me and only kick em in when things get iffy, remember to deactivate them before the 10 minutes is up.

I think I got everything important, how'd i do, people? :)

How do you activate guild tribute? I am a guild officer and can't figure out how to turn the items on....not talking about opting out, but actually enabling guild tribute for guild members to enjoy benefits....does it turn on with alt-U like other tribute?

I think it's a button in the guild gui (alt-g)? Don't know for sure. I do remember messing around with it at one point, but that was awhile ago...

"46% haste" sounds like you're confusing melee haste with spell-casting haste. 46% is a typical melee haste percentage. Beyond that, I'd have to log in and play around with my own guild's tribute settings to answer these questions. Surely someone else who passes thru here is more current on this topic.

Yes, he's confusing melee haste with spell haste.

Also, you can't stack those (for melee haste). If you have a belt with 43% melee haste, and guild tribute with 46% melee haste, you will have 46% melee haste (highest bonus wins).

Yeah, one of the problems is that for most things, tribute is more or less a dead mechanism these days. I don't have a comprehensive list or anything, but the effects generally do not stack with other spell/item effects (some with spells, some with worn item effects, again, don't ask me which is which). You get whichever is highest. So back in the day when very few people had those effects, tribute was a great way to fill in the gaps. Today? Almost all gear has better focus effects than you can get with tribute, and most classes will have spells or abilities that will supersede any tribute effects you might use.

This is further complicated by the tribute effects not actually showing up as buffs you can see and examine. Add in the old school style of "make up new/confusing/inconsistent names for every effect", and it's really really hard to tell if the stuff you're spending tribute on is actually doing anything at all. Frankly, I haven't bothered with it in years for these reasons. There might be a couple of effects that still do something useful, but if so they are so minor that you probably wont notice the difference. Remember that tribute was created well before they started tossing in gear with long lists of focus effects on them. So something that slightly increased your damage or regen or what not was a big deal. In today's game, where you have hundreds of points of every possible effect running all the time for free, tribute effects, even those that aren't overwritten, are mostly lost in the wash.

That's just my opinion, of course.

I agree with all the advice given above as very few classes nowadays benefit enough from the Tribute effects vs Tribute cost and hassle, as most gear at the higher levels focus has closed their gap with the tribute effect where relevant.

But there are at least one exception. The Necromancer. As many experienced soloing group game Necromancers will still use the Visions of Suffering and Twinge of Pain Tribute effects for speeding the stacking of dots and saving mana, allowing for multiple kiting heavy con non summoning mobs when xp'ing etc. I seldom hear of any other classes finding the tribute as effective as in the case of the Necro.

With regards to the buff showing in a buff/effect window. As far as Necro tribute goes, when I cast a spell I see a message for each tribute effect in the chat window. This way I know that so and so tribute effect(s), affected that particular spell just cast. But my tribute effects are both concerning casting spells. If you use any that are for providing mitigation etc, I cannot say for sure when or if there will be a message in the chat window while in a melee fight.

Good luck.
