ok..like so many others, I got tempted by the free sony offer (even though i had all access pass) and logged in to check out my old server....i canna tell ya why, but im back in eq1 again and enjoyin myself like never before and all the while thinkin...why the HELL did I go to eq2 to begin with?

I see lots of folks comin back from wow and other places and just cant help but wonder WHY?

I mean, eq has gotten into me way more than I care to admit...it was never just a game when I was playing it, it was a world. I actually found myself 'missing' places like POJ, crystal caverns, dreadlands etc... like they were real or somethin. I found old friends, old places and all in all, just felt like I was back 'home' again. I just cant put my finger on what the hell is so enjoyable about this game ....

I love being back and rerolled a new character just to learn the game again, but was just wondering if any of yall felt the same way...(and if I should seek deep psychological help :)

I'm also one of those returning folks.

I left for WoW back in late March, at a point where my guild wasn't doing too much and it was horrible trying to find a group.

Before I left, we had just completed full elemental flagging runs with an alliance guild, and when that ended I got bored real quick. In 7 months on WoW, I capped out my toon, got his full class set (first one) and PvPed a bit. (And created a few alts).

During the summer, the pull of EQ style raiding started to really get to me. So, come December, I downloaded all the expansions again and logged on in. (Not even knowing about the free 21 days until I had reactivated the account). I quickly levelled my butt of to 70/100 and applied to a raid guild (was actually the guild that we had allied with earlier).

Since I started my app, I have seen more, done more, and had more fun than I have for a long while (and died more too, but that's beside the point). So, add another that is having more fun now than he did previously.

Why did I leave WoW? My guild was pre-MC and ZG. There is a complete lack of any content for guilds with UBRS on farm status that are not big enough for MC. ZG works, but much of it is still unaccessable. Even once we start doing MC, we have about 3 other instances to go through (BWL, AQ(20), AQ(40)) and that's it. Things just ran dry for me in there. (And has happened to many others that I know as well).

EQ just has so much stuff to do, that you can go a few weeks and never do the same thing twice. You can be level 70 with several AAs, and still have not seen over half the world that's available to you.

Will WoW end up with something like that? Probably, but it's still far far too quick to level up and get there (It took me almost 3 years to get my first toon to 65 on EQ, and 2 years to get my 2nd toon to 70...it took me about 3 months to get to 60 on WoW...and another few months to get all the loots out of what our guild can do...now what?)

Are there other threads on WOW and EQ2 forums that have players coming back?

Most of the WoW board here is pretty quiet on that. A lot of "Coming to WoW from FFXI" threads, but not so much "Leaving WoW for EQ again" threads. (I think some of the O-board* kiddies are starting to find Alla too, which is sad :()

*The WoW Official boards (aka O-boards) are a cesspool of crap. All sorts of bNet kiddies there trying to make a name for themselves. Alla's has always been a sanctuary of sorts from there.

I would assume that once the expansion (for WoW) comes out, there may be some influx of people returning to it, and thus some posts on the boards.

There's also a LOT less that changes in WoW. Sure, we get some new content every month or 2, but it's not like leaving EQ for 2 years and missing out on 4 expansions (or even 7 months and missing out on most of one and missing another one).

Would expect it to change over time, as more content is added to WoW that would make returning players a bit lost, but the short answer (at least for WoW) is no.

(Edit..did I read that backwards? Probably...)
If I did misread that :p, then the only posts about coming to WoW are generally first-timers still, transferring from other games (FFXI is the most common it seems, at least that post).

Most people say that the first MMo you play, no matter how many you play afterwards, always draws you back. I find this not to be true, so i made my own version: Once you paly EQ, no matter if its your first or youve played eveyone on the market you always want to come back.

I started with DAoC because a friend played it, but in June wanted to give EQ a try. From the minute i logged on i never looked back to DAoC.

I had to spend one month away from EQ due to comp probs and all i could think abput was coming back to EQ.

Welcome Back :)

I started EQ in Jul.02, and then i left in Dec.03 for EQ2.

me personally i HATED eq2 because it was so phonie, and it just wasnt as fun as EQ.

I just came back to EQ, started a new char (lvl 50 now :-)) and honestly...i love it. there is so much to do, and ive met a lot of new friends playing it...my friends at school dont rly find it to "cool" to be playing EQ but ***** them lol.

EQ is the funnest game ive ever played- and im gona stick with it until people start to leave it for good....................

Wb,
I have taken the EQ bait hook line and sinker....been playing since 2000 and never have left for another game...tried them sure, but never took the plunge. I think as with many, EQ was the first and best imo MMORPG and "popped our cherries" so to speak and will always have a place in all of us. Great content and never enough time to see/ do everything in the game....a really great game...even 6 years later.
Bravo Sony.

Well, I came back to EQ after a brief hiatus...found out that lunch, supper and sleep are highly over-rated.

I think one of the big draws for me is the maturity level of alot of the players. I'll be 32 in March and have two kids. Most of the people I play with and a huge amount of people I meet are in that age range with similar life situations. I just don't see that in some of the newer games.

I'm not knocking the youth, mind you. There are alot that are fantastic players who are young (and also some jackasses who are 40 something). I'm referring to the player maturity level, which generally tends to increase as you age. Generally , lol.

I too am returning to EQ. I played for a couple of years when EQ first came out. Stopped when my son was born. I started getting the bug for some reason a couple of months ago. I went to get the latest EQ and noticed EQ2. That had to be better, right?!?!?! Well...here I am back at EQ and loving every minute of it (except the new tutorial drove me a little nuts). And after the other night...realized why I missed EQ. I was a little lost and needed help (things have changed quite a bit since before Kunark came out). A higher level happened to be popping in from a plane and helped me. I thanked him and went on my way. He caught up with me and just gave me 1000plat. His reason...because I didn't ask for anything when he helped me (along with being a halfling). For two months of playing EQ2...I can count on one finger (big hint there) how many times someone would help out a newbie. Just playing for a week now and I'm remembering kiting giants and running across Ro. In short...good to be back home!!!!!

Im back too, but this is not the firtst time.

I have been playing since 2000, and have left on several occasions for diffrent games, namely AO, Shadowbane, and WoW.

And quite frankly out of those 3 I found AO to be the one which captivated me the most, hehe I came back to that game a couple of times too. Switching between EQ and AO for several years.

But yeah, WoW is too much easy play and filled with litte immature kids shouting Leeroy and Allakhazam a bit too much for my tastes.

I also tried EQ2 but definitely did not like it. I hated the linked mob stuff, the shared debt, and the art and visuals in that game were a bit lacking IMO.

So I am back enjoying the EQ experience.
