What Monster Mission should I teach my kids?Follow

A little help, please. My oldest two are 5 and 8, and rather than just let them terrorize the Tutorial, PoK and various City zones on random Servers.. I was thinking they should play my mains in MMs so I can reap the vast AA rewards.

Any ideas on which one(s) to teach them? I have no experience with Monster Missions (aside from the one that is gone and 70.3 which I think would be hard for them), so I have no idea what to have them do. Any there any they might actually win with 2 (or 3 if I play too)?

From what I remember of the Halloween one.. it might take a year, but if you just throw yourself back into it.. you will win eventually. 70.3 you had to heal, or, you would never actually kill anything.. mobs killed you too quickly.

So.. any ideas? Thank you in advance.

This same thing occured to me as well. My 9 year just finished the tutorial with his character, but he's really not good enough at typing to do any real groups yet. Haven't had him try it yet, though.

I would start with the fairy one. It's pretty straight forward once you have all your hot keys set-up and AAs trained, you just run around into the cave, beat up a chest, loot, go back out and kill rats, then hit the shrines.

It's not terribly exciting, but fairly simple. The main thing is they just need to watch pathing and time things. I've actually often compared the fairy MM to minigames you find on Nick.com and such sites.

The faries are a good idea, although you do need to put at least 12 dots on the shrines, and timing them when the two graverobbers are out can take a little finesse.

Have you thought about the pirates one in Butcherblock? That one was pretty easy to pull, although you do need to have a healer in that one.

There is one in OT as well...you play either a warrior or a necro. That one might be good.

Definatly look into the Stonebrunt mission. No healers needed, just run straight north of the kitty city in Stonebrunt and camp there..have a puller bring wisps until you get 10 dead, then kill pandas until you get 5 pelts...turn them in, kill boss and done. There are no healers needed, just a ranger for tracking and mages for pets and DPS. That might be a good one to think about to get them started. The only concern I would have about this mission is the fact that if you are KOS to the kitties in Stonebrunt, you'll get ransacked on your way to the mission, and when you zone out of it.

Most all of them require some little bit of strategy to figure out before it goes all smooth and easy, so you'll probably have to sit through it with them the first couple times, if you want to win it anyways.

Of those I've done, I'd say the pirates mission of out BB is the most straight forward, just go kill things type mission. Though you're actually killing people, not sure how you feel about that.

The fairy mission is kid friendly in that the fairies are kinda cool and you only kill rats and shrines.

Give them a good book to read or maybe some arts and crafts to stimulate their minds. Keep them off the EverCrack... espcially at age 5.

BTW child labor laws may prohibit you from making them work on your AAs... lol =)

My 11 yo has been all over me for almost a year to let him play so finally I did. I bought the titanium edition and opened a second account. got him out of the tut last thursday in time for this weekend. he completed 4 MM's in hhk going from 15-19 in like 5 hrs. He thanks me by lying to me about home work last nite so he could play EQ. :( So now we are both grounded from the game for a week. lol He knows I enjoy playing, so just grounding him would be no biggie but grounding myself so I can sit with him while he does his work will be a true motivator)

Smiley: bowdown Trablin

That's the kind of parenting that there needs to be more of. Good on you Trab!

I've done similar things with my oldest daughter and people are amazed... "You put yourself out in order to punish her?" ... I explain, "It's not just to punish her, but to show her that her actions have farther reaching effects than just her own little world. If we teach by example, the lesson sticks better. My taking time out of things I enjoy to tutor her or spend time with her does MUCH more than just sticking her in her room with no attention" Remember, particularly with children, actions speak much louder than words.

I was almost brought to tears this past summer when I overheard my youngest daughter say to her friend, "I can't bother my dad right now, he's killing mobs, he gets mad if he gets bothered when he's killing mobs." I /q'd on the spot and didn't play EQ for 2 weeks. I went outside and played in the sandbox with her, ran under the sprinkler, played tag and basically spent every minute not at work for those 2 weeks playing with my kids and doing summer things with them until they went back to school. Since then, I only play EQ after my little one is in bed for the night or is napping (this past weekend was the only exception - couldn't resist the double xp... lol - BUT as soon as the MM was done, I went AFK and went and played games, read stories or watched TV with the kids for 20 minutes while the timer ticked away).

Not trying to tell anyone how to parent, please don't take this post as anything more than my own experience, opinion and Smiley: twocents

BTW....which MM gives you the most XP? Is it the HHK one?

The SK mission gives the most of any that I've heard. At lvl 70 that one will grant 2.3 AA's per completion.

Lol. Cute. And awesome that you took that opportunity to spend time with you kids.

I had a similar experience with my oldest boy. I had asked him not to bother me for a half hour unless it was important while I did part of raid I needed to focus on. My mom calls and I hear my son pick-up the phone. All I hear him say is, 'Hi Gramma...no, can't come to the phone cause people might die.'

I don't think Felicite was looking for advice on how to raise her children.

Everquest is tougher than most of the childrens computer programs but I don't see any reason that they couldn't mess around in an instanced zone killing monsters. They can get a feel for what Mommy's doing.

Did you see the smiley at the end of my first post? Did you notice that I refered to the game as EverCrack? Did you read my follow up post? I am NOT trying to tell people how to reaise their kids... I was making a joke with my first post - humor often doesn't carry over well in text. If you misunderstood my point, that's fine. I think the person it was directed at (i.e. Felicite) got it and probably got a chuckle out of it becuase she/he didn't say anything.

I guess when you throw out a comment like:

Quote:

on a public message board, that makes it open for discussion, no?

Btw, I see no 'smiley' at the end of it.

See the =) ?

If you turn your head sideways to the left, you will see that the equal sign looks like two eyes and the right parenthesis looks like a smiling mouth. That is what is known as a smiley. It is a text only form of Smiley: smile

Look, if you want to continue the flame-fest that's fine, but suffice it to say that when I said in a follow up post:

I think I clearly stated that I wasn't trying to tell anyone how to parent. If you have a vendetta against me for another reason, then flame away, otherwise, please let this one go... it's kind of silly.

Has someone figured out the SK MM yet? That one has a time limit and a learning curve so it might not be the best for kids. My suggestions for the least amount of frustration would be:

The Stonebrunt one you can do with 3. Usual make-up is 1 tracker and the rest mages but you could probably do better with 3 mages if that is all you had. SOP is to have mages set up on North face of Mountain to the north of the kitty village.

Highhold Keep one is doable with 3. Good to learm basic melee mechanics. Let one play a cleric from time to time.

Nektulos Fairies is doable with 3 as well. Here you get to do some other things like DoT, Heal, Hide.

I wouldn't count on racking up the AAs. With three in a group it might take a bit of time to succeed in one. Kids should have fun though.

No Kriegs, a true apology. I have no vendetta. Guess it was my motherly instinct kicking in when I saw your first response and knew how'd I feel if someone were to question my mothering decisions.

Edit to add that I don't think anything I wrote could be called a 'flame', perhaps you took my comments wrong as well.

Uh oh,

I just saw someone rated down your posts Kriegs. I didnt' do it - honest. I rated them back up though. Not necessarily that I agree with them, I just didn't want ya thinking I had a vendetta.

All comments I made previously in this thread I would have made regardless of any affiliations that the subject of said comments may hold.

Thank you for all the insights. I am not really counting on wracking up AA.. they are not very driven.. and I can do that myself just fine. My 8 year old can kite just fine, but looses interest quickly.

I was honestly thinking of something they could do for an hour or two now and then and be interesting monsters.

Might just teach them how to find the Shroud NPCS, they already leave the Tutorial fairly quickly (after gathering some bonechips, necromancer or not.. because gathering bonechips, and silk, is What You Do). Then they could be cool monsters.

But starting them in a monster mission would be a treat.. and if they actually finished.. well.. bonus.

*smiles* and thanks for the reading tips.. they both read for fun, although the 8 year old is in the third grade and reading at a 9th grade level.. the 5 year is more age average. It's hard being the middle child when number one is off the charts scholastically (and of course goes to the same school.. talk about a cliche).

Don't you need at least 3 people to get a MM now ?

BTW good luck to all those parents out there who think that EQ is a safe place for children. I'm a 39 male (with three young children) who is often quite frankly stunned at the antics of many supposedly grown-up players. Those who:

Think it is a turn-on to try and chat up any female character, some with very unsubtle remarks.

Just can't wait to shout abuse at anyone for any mistake, even not knowing something about the game, gives rise to the "You must be a ******* Ebayed toon" "******g noob etc etc.

Decide that it is fine to swear in any given situation (even with the language blocker) especially in groups when something has gone wrong and have a go at someone just because they make a mistake. I'd hate my child to get a mouthful just cause he/she didn't do something that was expected of them.

Even if you do just do MM's can you guarantee that your child will not be put in the position above ?

I'd love to let my children play EQ - the world created there is fantastic and the creatures amazing, but do I want them to potentially come in contact with some of the less pleasant aspects of life via the people who play the game - no way. The same as I wouldn't send my 9 year old out to play with the 15-16 year olds on the street, why would I think that playing a Teen rated online game is suitable for them.

I think I'll let my children preserve their innocence a little while longer, they have their whole lives to see just what the adult world is like good and bad.

My two pennies worth - Please feel free to flame away
