Going to have to ask a dumb questionFollow

#1 Feb 19 2006 at 11:52 PM Rating: Good
I've just returned from a two year absence and I've started up a druid. I've got so many spells but I seem to have a maximum of 8 slots to put them all in. Is this really the case? I mean, between all my buff spells, I'd barely have room for any offensive spells! Tell me I'm missing something please! =)

Nope 8 spell slots is all you get until you get the aa that gives you one more spot. All you have to do is cast the buffs you want, then unmemorize them, then put your offensive spells there.

Ouch, don't remember having to do that, but oh well, at least I can save spell sets. Thanks for the reply!

Leave off your buff spells after you buff. Leave up maybe your DS spell. Have Snare AND Root memmed. A DoT or two, a DD and your best heal. You should be fine.

Mem all your standard buffs and SAVE that lineup for easy re-memming. Save your offensive line up as well so you can quickly change back.

If you do not have gate memmed, save a spell set which is essentially: Gate, empty, empty, empty, empty, empty, empty, empty. If you get in trouble you can always try to load this spell set for easy escape.

Be thankful you do not have a chanter, I could use 16 spell slots easy!

I think it should be like abilities, you put it in a hot key spot, then on abilities page you can change to a different ability and have both. I hate the meager 9 slots, and want at least double, and I just don't see the need to keep it a 9.

I like to think of it like this....the mind can only hold so much, so thats why all casters are restricted to 8 slots (until they reach the level where Mnuemonic Retention is attained.)

Afte all we are mere mortals......

In most game settings there are limitations very similar to these placed on most caster professions.

There are ways and ways around this limitation. As a necromancer I work around it to full effect. Depending on the situation I will (manually) swap half my spells out in the middle of a fight. The new spellgem tree structure is a lot better than flipping through the spellbook looking for something.

I liked Anarchy Online's system, pages of spells, like pages of hotkeys. My mind can hold more than 9 spells Smiley: grin. It's places...

I actually do have a 65 enchanter that I'm too scared to fire up right now, don't want to look like an ebayer while relearning the game! For instance, in another topic, the one that says "How to spot an Ebayer", it says something about a higher level asking where the door to the bazaar is in PoK. I personally have no idea, as it wasn't there when I logged off for my long break. So if I wasn't thinking about it and did /ooc "where is the door..." =P

Well, logged in decided to search for the door to the Bazaar, it's not exactly hidden is it? =)

I wouldn't worry about not knowing where things are. If that is a concern to others it's their problem.

Just make sure, if you do decide to dust off your chanter to get to know how it works again if you're gonna group with others. A chanter's basic job hasn't changed though, just a few new spells. Your gear will likely be sorely outdated as well.

As far as the spell bar, on my druid, like others have mentioned, I have two bars saved - regular and buffs. On my regular bar though I have one slot that I change spells out on continuously.

Also, get your druid a Crucible of Escape, as soon as you're of a level to start evacing. It's a clicky evac item you can cast right from your inventory. It will save you a spell gem and it requires no mana.

Good luck. Smiley: smile

Hmmm Spell effect says it decreases mana by 300 or am I misreading that?

I shouldn't worry about the bazaar door in general or where things are. I think most people misunderstood my post completely. The instance of the bazaar door was someone who I had seen in PoK for quite some weeks (if not a couple of months)and did not know the bazaar door. This was just an example, maybe I should have mentioned the fact that this lvl 60+ didnt even realise they had a H.o.T (heal over time) spell as a cleric.
The post was not meant to 'make fun" of those who have been out of the game for a long time or who simply have not come across things. I have had my druid since 2000 and at times do not know things either.
It was meant as a "what sorta weird things do those who did actually buy themselves a lvl 65 toon (and yeah they are sold, via posts on this forum, via PM messages to my account here and on guildportal)say".
C'mon some lvl 60 druid who does not know what forage is? A cleric who doesnt know they have H.O.T spells? Must admit it's funny. Must also admit that this can be pretty 'dangerous' if you take someone like this on a raid. Personally I do not wish to group with someone who buys a high lvl toon (IF this is their first entry into EQ, if this is a 2nd.3rd. 4th account I really dont care). Personally I have no problem at all to take someone who has been away for years on a hunt so that they can practice. Getting killed due to the incapabilities of the bought toon p*sses me off, getting killed by someone who is rusty does not.

You might not have been around for awhile, might even be sort of rusty on your chanter, but this does not mean you have no clue what your role is in a group. And beside this, a "back after x years whats this Bazaar door I hear about" will not make you look either stupid, silly or ebay.

Ahh yes and Welcome back and if you play on AB let me know and you more then welcome to take your chanter out for some practice with us, and no we won't mind if ya get us all killed because you forgot you had a mez spell Smiley: grin

It will drain 300 mana from anyone in the group that is succored....if they have it. Casting it doesn't cost anything though.

Saved spell sets are your friend!

You can have help to 10 sets of spells saved. Just remember to set these up with the spells you "always" keep up in the same slot postion in each set and those are not unloaded. This can be done quickly.

I'm a 40ish chanter. My saved sets are: buff, group, solo, small group, craft (buffs and enchant metal spells)

Have fun!

Lol, thanks Maktub.

I'm actually on Quellious/Rodcet Nife. I was kind of excited when I saw a bazaar alt belonging to the guild I used to be in, but apparently they dissolved and the mule was just a leftover. I've taken my chanter out and started Dire Charming again. I have fond memories of attempting to 3-man the tower bosses in BoT, but I can barely remember how to get there now. The game is still as fun as I remember it though, I'm sure I'll remembering all the stuff I've forgotten soon enough.

Saw a toon OOC that same question, "where is the bazaar door?". About 5 or 6 people all said the same thing. EBAY!. Started laughing when the guy linked some foods that he had from when EQ was new. I admit it was before my time but it was some kind of milk and cookies.
Next time someone says something like that to you just point out something you remember from when you did play on a regular. Seems that shuts a few people up.
