Why?
This is a roleplaying game and familiar cities and sites are part of the experience. I liked the old Freeport and have spent a lot of time there over the years.
You can update graphics without destroying familiar layouts.
In the case of the bazaar, it no longer looked or felt like a bazaar when they got done with it. They said it was designed that way to remove lag but they could have made the merchants look a little more like merchants instead of statues lining the walls and the sellers now look like wax museum dummies standing on the platform. A few tables or chairs or plants might help the roleplaying atmoshere.
But Freeport probably didnt have that kind of lag problem so why not update the look without destroying its past.
Maybe they are training their EQ2 designers by letting them go wild on EQ redesigns.
Freeport now looks like someone from EQ2 timetraveled back and cast a spell to overhaul old Freeport. I can almost hear a lead designer yelling: "TEXTURES, TEXTURES, WE NEED MORE TEXTURES!".
Is there a story line to explain the amazing transformation of the city plan overnight? and where are they getting all the stone they are using in the bazaar and Freeport?
Yes, I am playing less now because I dont enjoy the game as much due to all of the expansions, patching and redesigning. I am hoping, after seeing what they did to Freeport, that I can pull myself away from this game that I love so much BEFORE they "improve" my home town and completely ruin the game for me.
Just my 2 coppers worth.
