Is this just a myth or do you really need this high levelish gear when your starting out (1-20 er so). If you just got the game how are you supposed to find 5k for "newbie" gear to buy in bazaar? I've always wondered this. Do you really need all that gear in bazaar that sells for 300pp a piece? Or, can you survive with newbie quest gear and armor that drops?

Absolutely no problem to "survive" with your newbie gear (quested via your guildmaster or in PoK).

Of course, it goes a lot faster with a twinked toon... But EQ is absolutely playable following the "regular" way.

As far as how to get the 5K, that's fairly easy as a youngling, as spiderling silks go for 10-12pp each in bazaar. You can sell bone chips, low, medium, and high quality pelts go for a nice price. Rat parts can be sold to vendor, to buy a couple of bazaar bags, and you can park in the bazaar when you are eating or sleeping.

That said, you do not have to do it that way.

wait.....they go for 12pp a piece?? or 12pp a stack? Wow, it has changed back in my days they went for 20pp a stack

varies from server to server but you prolly should be able to easily sell em for 5pp each (100pp a stack). Not sure how well this sells anymore but you can also farm swirling shadows (drop from low lvl shades in Shadeweaver's thicket). I used to sell those for 50pp each. Sell a couple of stacks of those and you can buy some gear that will last you a while.

Jrmayii reminded me of one that I completely forgot about. I forgot exact levels, but I think around your 20s, you can kill in the caverns in shadeweavers. The chunks of condensed flame (stackable) sell at around 50pp per piece. YMMV based on server of course.

I think the real point is that the game is designed from the ground up to accomdate new players . The gear you get as you progress is all you need to play the game the way it was intended.

The game is so mature now that more mature players don't want to take the time to level up their Alts so they " twink " them with better gear to do it faster.

Nothing wrong with that but the newbie game still exists for the brand new players.

Thanks for all the help and the farming tips everyone.

I could prolly hunt shadeweaver caverns if I have a lvl 20 ranger right?

Farming spider silks at lower levels is a good way to get soem money, but it would be best spent *first* on your lower-level spells. There are newbie gear quests which may be tedious but they are serviceable for some time.

As mentioned, the game is definately playable with the "crap" gear. Twinking is only beneficial if you want to progress quickly, with little risk, missing much of the lower-level content.

Take the Halas portal to Everfrost, awesome place to get spiderling silks, and bear skins and wolf skins, and backpacks and bone chips, it's a farming newb heaven.

Don't just sell the spiderling silks, ruined/low-qual pelts, wolf meat though. (infomercial about tradeskilling your way to financial independence to follow as soon as I rent the bikini babes)
