Like most I think, I download my maps from mapfiend and overall they are quite good.
Some though use a very irritating light grey line that is barely seeable.
Anyone know how to edit the txt files to change these to black in one go?

Also: I edited my POK map becuase each NPC,stone, location was on there double, but everytime I log back in the doube entries have been added.

Well if you open the map file as a text file you will see like 1000000 sentences and each one will end with 3 numbers like 155, 155, 155....etc. These are the colors.

So all you have to do is get some editing program like edit+ (do a search for it on downloads.com)

The program lets you replace portions of text. for example you can say replace all 155, 155, 155 with 255, 255, 255. And it will go through te entire document and change all the 155, 155, 155 to 255....

Then just save the mapfile and restart EQ.

One thing I noticed while working on maps is that there are several files and several levels of the maps. The old cartography saved one file per zone, but the new system has three layers, and three files. So for any one zone you may have 4 files - example, lavastorm.txt, lavastorm_1.txt, lavastorm_2.txt, lavastorm_3.txt; and 4 layers - base and layers 1-3. This is probably why you end up with multiple labels.

Yes I noticed this too Debalic to I came up with this nifty "all portals on 1.txt, NPCs on 2.txt and forges, brewing barrels and the likes on 3.txt" worked wonders, just clicked off layer 2+3 and voila it only showed the portals. login to EQ and the whole thing back to old.

Will try the other suggestion too and see if it fixes my maps

there is an easier solution than editing the map files.
It involves right click and one of the option/density files when the map is onscreen. I cant give the full details as I would need to be in game. In other words, I can do it but not sure how to tell you.
Will let you know later.

Are you referring to the window texture option?

That is defunct, for the map at least. The map window shows a parchment-style texture which many colors don't show up on (like light gray). Turning off the window texture used to remove that, but they changed it awhile back so that it only alters the texture of the map window border, not the parchment itself.
I've found the best way to increase visibility is to lower the alpha level in active mode; that makes the map window see-through and make th elines more visible.

I am referring to the alpha. Right click on map, then on the alpha line. There are two options, one for normal one and one for faded.
Adjust the normal for less than 100 and see what the map looks like.
I was told to use the faded but that didnt work for me.

So where you you get a new atlas, I wonder, the one in the game is outdated now. You'd think they'd keep that updated.

On mapfiend, there's a link to a program called Mappie that can do map editing. Maybe that can help You with the map adjustments?
