65 levelingFollow

#1 Mar 10 2006 at 8:40 AM Rating: Decent
Ive been out of the game for nearly two years I need to know the places that 65's go to get up to 70. Also what zones they are off of or what expansion there in if anyone could give me a list of good places to hunt group or solo I would be very appreciative.

As a caster you're going to need lots of runes for your 66-70 spells (although 66-68 runes, minor, lesser and muramite runes are droppable/baz buyable), so jrmayii's advice on OOW zones is good. OOW runes get turned in to Karsor the Mad in Dranik's Scar.

DoDh zones also have named that drop shadowspine runes (also minor, lesser and "normal") that can be turned in to Brother Hidden Path for the same spells 66-68.

69, 70 and ancient 70 runes (greater, glowing and ancient) are no drop.

If you want faster XP and plan on buying runes from 66-68, you can give the old world hot zones a shot (currently sebilis and CT for your level. Planar XP is second best, coming in well ahead of comparable kills in DON zones (70 wiz earns ~33% more xp per kill on lvl 61-62 mobs in the planes, versus yellow con mobs in DON).

Yaddleyaddle,
You would be a better asset to the game and enjoy it more if you just played the game for the sake of having fun, let the leveling happen naturally instead making that your primary focus.

Not if you're trying to get into a guild that has a lvl 70 requirement.

Here's a couple of older world suggestions:

If you can't get a group (which shouldn't be too hard for a 65 mage), you may want to tear through Old Sebilis since it's currently a hot spot (whereas exp is increased), exp isn't that bad, there are lots of spell and gem drops, and I'm sure you're familiar with it. Velks is also a hot spot.

It is highly doubtful that being a level 70 is the only requirement, usually some depth is required in your toon as well.

Depth you may have achieved already getting to 65, or the lack of depth that will immediately show up when you come to be depended on and can't produce, because your main focus in the game was to "level".

thanks for the info traderelf.

but what about the monster missions and the crystals? how does that work exactly?

is it similar to ldon (points for gear and different dungeons mean different gear?)

or is it like the instances in OOW? kill named and get loot?

While I agree with you, the fact is, unless you've been powerleveled to 70, you're most likely going to have a good grasp on your class.

I'm not following you here. Achieving 70 is a feat imho. It doesn't just happen. It can take months or even years of gameplay, depending on the player. There is nothing wrong with setting a goal and reaching it. Honorably making your character as powerful as you want is the driving force behind eq and it's what makes players great, especially for groups and guilds.

but what about the monster missions

MMs were introduced in DoDh (the second to latest expansion) and more have been added in PoR (the latest expansion). If you don't have these expansions, then you can't participate. Simply, a group (not solo) approaches the quest-giver, which assigns the group a mission. You then choose your monster character, enter the zone by speaking with the quest-giver, complete the mission, the group receives one no-trade item, and you loot a shard for exp, which is given to you after you exit the mission. Previously, you die in the missions as many times as you wanted without penalty. Now, there is a limit of 5 deaths (I'm not sure if that applies to all MMs though). Also, the exp used to be very good, but, like most things, it has been nerfed. Still, MMs would be an easy way to gear up your character. Check out a lengthy discussion here.

In DoN (the third latest expansion), a new group task system was introduced given by good and evil npc in lavastorm mountains. (there are other group tasks found throughout the world, but those do not give you radiant and ebon crystals). For completing the group task in the DoN instanced zone, you receive an amount of crystals from which you can buy very decent gear from the adventure merchants found in lavastorm. You cannot get crystals for solo tasks. The experience varies per task. Here's a discussion on DoN progression.

It is similar to ldon points except the crystals are tradeable, making life much easier. The gear and augs are much better in many regards. There is loot in some DoN tasks, but there's no guarentee. Also in some tasks, you must kill a named to complete it.

Is ok, while you don't have to follow me...you will eventually understand what I mean when you get a level 70 fiting one of 2 situations.

1) you never heard of the level 70 toon before and he is asking you the most rudimentary of questions and knows nothing of the game play and how he can apply his skills to help the group.

2) you have heard of the toon before but he is still asking you the same newb questions.

For both situations there are a couple answers...the toon has been powerleveled and doesn't have the "depth" of knowledge or skills to be where he is at.

Or the toon has been bought/sold and again doesn't have the "depth" in this charactor not to get himself/you/group wiped over and over and over.

While this used to be true and still is ocassionally...toons are achieving level 70 on a daily basis via either monster missions or powerleveling(either by friends or some paid service).
