1. yes, very friendly and mature group of players.
2. if you pick up DAoC Gold(someone was talking about platnum, but i have not seen that box set) you will get classic, foundations (free expansion), and SI(shadow isle).

3. troll thane mid, or troll zerker
4. enjoy the game, join a large population server, get in a good guild with a nice size alliance.

the free expansions are just that. free. everyone gets them for free. just download them, or pay Mythic something like $5 for the CD to be mailed to you.

Haven't played the game in a year, But I'm going back so lets see:

If its your first, then It can be a rather teep learning curve. Not as cushy as EQ but not as terrfying as UO. Also, I rarely find any 1337 C10N3r5 in game, they are all very mature.

The free expansions work like this: They are of coarse Free. You can either download them (I believe they are rather large, so only DL them if you have a high-speed line), or Order them, Or I received foundations in a Gaming magazine.

Definitly Midgard. Midgard is the Melee Realm, Hibernia is the Magickal Realm and Albion is both. Though, I find it more fun to play a Magickal race, melee is the best for begginers To learn.

Anymore tips? Just have fun, and ask any player if you need help.

yeah as for the learning curve im at 36th in my thane, and i still get lost getting around in the world.

as for how to play my thane in pve, i have that figured out rather well. still learning the pvp stuff, but im not really high enough to join real pvp without being surrounded by 7 other 46+ friends.

the interface is not as intuitive as EQ, but it is still simple enough to figure out, same goes for the movement keys. i always remap mine anyways to standard FPS style: wasd for base movement and qe for straifing.
