Which is the best?(lengthy)Follow

#1 Feb 28 2005 at 12:15 AM Rating: Decent
I recently started working, and I'm saving up for a better computer. (This one is my girlfriends, I'm living with her now in PA, instead of CA.. Long story, don't ask)

And Dark Age of Camelot has always appealed to me, though I've heard some bad things about it. I played World of Warcraft on a friends computer, and I liked it, but I would really like to try to play my own game, instead of someone elses.

Now that I'm working, I'm able to maybe get a credit card, and pay 14 dollars every month or so, in order to play this game. However I'm a little baffled at all the expansions out... So I'll just ask a few questions, and hope for some answers...

1. Are the weapons/items upgraded, changed, or new ones added to newer expansions. If so, are the old versions able to play with the new weapons/items?

2. Are there race restrictions for each Expansion, or do I get all races in just like.. Catacombs.. or Atlantis..Or like.. the original DAoC.. >.>

3. More land? Or like different places to go in the expansions..?

4. Which Expansion is the best, stastistically.

Thank you for your time.

Save up and get the platinum edition (Classic, Shrouded Isles, Trials of Antlantis) and Catacombs. Trust me, it will make getting started faster, easier, and more palatable (especially after having played WOW)

Well, here's the deal and the break down on your questions.

1. Are the weapons/items upgraded, changed, or new ones added to newer expansions. If so, are the old versions able to play with the new weapons/items?

A: They have changed intems in patches, the expansions introduce new gear and even new crafting items (EG: Crescent Swords, fortified and exceptional weapons, legendary weapons, and other stuff). You can get by on old world gear, I only have a couple pieces of Catacombs gear, but to seriously play, you'll want Trials of Atlantis stuff because artifacts wtfpwn d00d. If I can be 1337 for a moment.

2. Are there race restrictions for each Expansion, or do I get all races in just like.. Catacombs.. or Atlantis..Or like.. the original DAoC.. >.>

A: As you most likely gathered, you can't play a race or class combo that came from an expansion you don't have, but you can play WITH people who ha ve those characters. I think that's what you're asking.

3. More land? Or like different places to go in the expansions..?

A: Different places to go, different people to kill, and different places to kill other people on. All three of those were done with the expansions, Catacombs was the most encompassing on that by adding new frontiers and the likes.

4. Which Expansion is the best, stastistically.

A:There's also Shrouded Isles, mass expanses of new land, a new race to each realm and new classes to each realm. Many new quests and the likes were introduced.

Trials of Atlantis introduced Master Levels and Artifiacts, two of the things driving people to play, and they also itnroduced new races, one per realm.

Onto Catacombs new races for each realm, two in Hibernia and Midgard, instanced dungeons for the solo gamer, housing comes with it (so as to not have to download it from a website), new frontiers as I mentioned earlier, more RVR (realm war) action, and instanced dungeons in old world dungeons that drop aurulite, a special type of "money" used in the catacombs cities they introduced to buy some really nice gear. It also added loads of new zones, as did TOA and SI.

I'll second the notion that just buying a clustered expansion pack would be smarter, take time to do some class research and get to know what you'll want to play and the likes too. I find www.daoc.warcry.com is great for quests, DAOC Catacombs is wonderful for building your character to know what you want to aim at at level 50. The most handy tool you'll ever have is definately www.classesofcamelot.com . Masterfully done, has run-downs of all classes, listings of all the skills to a realm and even a class, and thankfully, at the bottom of each class' page, you get links (if available) to class specific sites or walkthroughs and strategies.

Hope that helps.
