Classic vs RegularFollow

#1 Apr 30 2006 at 6:03 PM Rating: Decent
Hi all,

I played DAoC when it first came out and haven't touched it since... so basically I am starting off from scratch with very little knowledge of the game and I have some questions regarding classic and regular servers...

1) What are the benefits of going with either server type?
2) What will I miss by choosing one over the other?
3) What is your preference of server types?

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. I want to enjoy the game and not miss anything.

Thank you

Ok.....let me see if I can answer some of your questions.

Benefits:
- Classic: No artifacts & No master levels this reduces the time sink in the game so you are not forced to get these items to compete. Also classic server cleric/druid/shaman buffs are time/distance based. It reduces the need to have a buff-bot, and decreases the margin between the "haves and have-nots".
- Regular: Artifacts & Master levels are great abilities to have and can turn the tide your way in fights sometimes. I dont know how many times a well placed Forceful Zephyr or a well timed Phase Shift & run has saved my butt. Buffbots also increase the capabilities of the "solo" players out there. Additionally ToA ML's and Artis provide some great content and no longer require the huge time sink they did a few years ago. The time sink being most players major complaint.

Negatives:
- Classic: Self buff classes (Friar, Vamp!, Heretic etc) have a huge advantage in RvR on 1v1 basis. Most of your players here are uber leet gankers and unless you have a solid group of 8 with an enhance cleric and a rejuve cleric you will probably not do well in RvR. Pick up groups just cant cut the mustard. Vamps, the most op class in the game, own the servers to my knowledge and beating them on regular servers 1v1 requires me to burn at least one ML if not 2 usually.
- Regular: Most of the players on the regular servers are seasoned vets with most of their arti's/ml's done. There are still plenty of raids to do ML's and artis but they get fewer and farer between. Also having a second account for a Buffbot (Enhance specd cleric) is almost a must. Unless you or a friend has one I wouldnt think about going RvR without one. (Unless you have self buffs that is)

Personally I prefer the regular servers. I never complained about my character getting more utility through ML's/Arti's. I rather like being able to win fights by using my full ******* on people. It allows me to win those fights that I know I shouldnt have won strictly on the fact that I used everything at my disposal and gives just about every class a CHANCE to beat any other class.

Just my two cents but I hope I layed it out for you.
