Just a few questions from a new player.Follow

Hi all.

I recently purchased the Epic Edition off Ebay from Canada and I'm waiting delivery. Just sacked off Neocron 2 due to payment problems and the bugs only just being outweighed by the pluses. Played WOW on a private server and thought it was okay but overhyped, glad I tried before I bought it. Read intensively on the net looking for an alternative online subscription game and DAOC by far intrigued me the most. So as a soon to be newcomer I would just like some info.

1)Considering an Elven Eldritch on the Kay server, would that be a good choice? Looking for a character I could solo early levels and then group play later.

2)Which servers are well populated with new players?

3)Any other characters I should consider trying

4)Are servers heavily laden with a particular Realm or are they balanced? RvR would surely work better if all three were evenly populated on servers.

5)Vampiir's sound very interesting, anyone played them and are they popular for groups?

6)Which classes are the most sort after for groups?

I also like the fact that the developers are constantly adding stuff and balancing the game. The development for DAOC really appears to be top class.

Thanks for your replys.

1)Considering an Elven Eldritch on the Kay server, would that be a good choice? Looking for a character I could solo early levels and then group play later.
**Eldritch's are very good toons that are very popular in groups. I am not so sure how they are to level b/c I never have had one, but they bring a ton of utility to their groups (nearsight, disease, mezz, stun, pbaoe, bolts). They would be a good toon. Kay is part of Caerleon cluster. Hibs are doing well on Caerleon, so this is not a terrible choice. There are a lot of players on it at least.

2)Which servers are well populated with new players?
**The servers that are most populated with new people would be the three classic servers, which are only a year old. These servers don't have the ToA expansion as part of them, so if you are interested in the most uber items the game has to offer, you would miss out on them, but most that play on these don't seem to mind (b/c the uber items are something more elite players will always have and the casual player may or may not have).

3)Any other characters I should consider trying.
**there are so many characters of so many different types (45 total classes). You should try many, but first, just try one and see if you like it. There is no telling what your style of play will be like and what YOU will like until you tried it.

4)Are servers heavily laden with a particular Realm or are they balanced? RvR5 would surely work better if all three were evenly populated on servers. **Some servers are more balanced than others. Mids in general are underpopulated on most servers/clusters. Hibs are generally considered FoTM, although Albs can still field a lot of numbers each night (although Albs are known to have less of a RvR population and more of a PvE population.

5)Vampiir's sound very interesting, anyone played them and are they popular for groups?
**Vamp's are easy toons to solo, very overpowered on classic servers (because they are already pre-buffed, whereas most toons do not have buffs on a classic server). They are not all that good at level 50 in Realm vs. Realm, or at least not on an average player. in battlegrounds, they are probably the most popular toon, but their effectiveness seems to be greatly diminished at level 50,at least in terms of group play. Many people roll vamps as a starting toon b/c they level fast. Then, they use them as their farming toon b/c they are very good in PvE.

6)Which classes are the most sort after for groups?
**Healing classes and Mezz classes are most sought after, since no group can compete without those. After that, most caster classes are very useful to a group. Light Tanks are nice also. Almost any toon can be useful to a group, but gank groups like to have set proven toons in their ranks. Beginning the game, don't worry about this and just try to find a class you like. If you learn to play your class, you will do fine. Hibernia does not have any "bad" classes. Midgard has a few, although the two worst were recently improved to make them more on part. Alb has a few weak classes also in RvR, although those same toons can dominate PvE.

Good luck

Thanks very much for the replies. I don't want to try the classic servers because I want the opportunity to try and have everything possible no matter how difficult that is to obtain. As long as I can solo early on effectively untill I am at a level to join guilds/groups then I will be happy.

Of course the best way to find this all out is to play it when my game finally arrives but it makes life a little easier knowing I am making decent choices early.

I would think it would be two seperate accounts.

I guess you could download the free trial to "practice" to get a feel. The free trial does not (I believe) have Catacombs or Darkness Rising on it, so you would have to buy those separate, but you could just create a character and see if you like the class. Don't renew the account after the free trial expires. by that time, your full copy should have arrived and you can start over again, but this may give you a chance to create a toon on each realm or see what you like.

I'm not sure if there is any way you could combine these accounts, because they use authentication codes so now that you purchased an epic edition, that will be the account you use.

But, for the impatient people, you could download the free trial (and later the DR and Cata expansion for an additional 29.99) and never need any CD's to install.

No need as it has arrived today. Will be installing it and be on later.

Q: OK! I tried it and like the game... if I buy it do I have to make new characters all over again?
A: Nope, you can add the full game to it without much hassle. Most here will recommend you buy the EPIC box which you can get at Walmart for approximately $29.95 and folks are reporting that Gamestop has it for $19.95. Buying the Epic is more financially smart than buying all the expansions needed to make the trial a good retail game. Trial only includes Classic, Shrouded Isles and TOA and is $14.95 to convert to retail. Epic has all of those as well as Catacombs and Darkness Rising. Those two expansions are $19 each so the Epic box is the cheapest way to get the full game.
