RvR and Mage ClassesFollow

I play an Enchanter over on Hibernia, and was thinking I'd try out similar classes in competing realms (not a spy, mind you, just getting the most out of my account). Playing a Cabalist is fun so far, but the spec specifics for it are confusing. One person in my guild recommended going 50 Matter, and another was in complete disagreement, saying a tri-spec was better. What would you recommend?

Also, I hope to do a fair amount of RvR once I get to the appropriate level. What is the better magic class for the battlegrounds? As a hib, I know mezzes bring me down more than anything, but what is the better class? I try to look at guides offered on this site, but there's so much to read - I get impatient after a few paragraphs and jump into the game :)

Thanks for the help!

Matter is great for leveling (let your pet do the work with focus shield) and PvE. It can also be used in zergs (AoE Damage over time spells). However, for serious RvR, the tri-spec works best. You get all the toys that a cabalist can bring with the tri-spec. You get body debuffing for your baseline nukes, you get AoE disease, nearsight and your nukes still are lightning fast and hit hard.
