THE GOLDEN RULE
May 12, 2013
Hey guys!
Fernehalwes here!

Every year at the end of April in Japan, there's a week so spectacular, so scintillating, so utterly stunning that it's called Golden Week. Multiple national holidays converge with two sets of weekends to form an extended window of respite which not only rejuvenates the hearts and minds of a weary nation, but spreads joy and happiness from the northern most tip of Hokkaido to the southern most islands of Okinawa and everywhere in-between. Well, everywhere, that is, except at SQEX headquarters where it was business as usual getting the game ready for the next phase of the beta test.

But if we're so busy, what then, am I doing writing this post?
Good question! There's a reason I've been MIA on the Lore Forums and the beta servers, and why it takes several moments for my littlest voidsent to recognize me when I finally make it home after a long day buried under all 20 hardback volumes of the OED. And that reason will become evident very soon when you all get your hands on the massive amount of new content that is coming in the next beta test (phase three). And the amazing thing is...even that amount is only a portion of what will be in the game at release!

Even Yoshi-P was burning the Golden Week oil checking even the most detailed aspects of the game.

Question. What is Yoshi-P doing in this photo?
Screenshot

If you guessed "simultaneously comparing the differences in color and contrast between the PC and PS3 versions on six monitors of various manufacturers," you get a mythril star!

For those interested, the differences were deemed within an acceptable range and given the Yoshi-P seal of approval. YAY!

What Yoshi-P was truly interested in, however, were the differences in monitors. As you can see in the following photo, there is a noticeable difference between manufacturers:

Needless to say, our fearless director spent the next 30 minutes fiddling with the picture settings on both displays and ended up being late to a meeting with the big wigs on the 20th floor. OOOPS!

Seems like a GREAT segue to having contrast\color\brightness setting controls in-game, no?

I like the insight into this sort of minutiae because...well...I never really thought that this was something that devs worried about.

I mean with photography, you find a baseline on a calibrated monitor and what comes out pretty much the way it comes out when it's printed.

If the consumer's monitor is junk what does that have to do with the devs situation?

Maybe I'm not completely understanding what's going on here.

In any case its still interesting to see.

Liars, he was just farming Gil to sell on release.

But wow, that's some attention to detail.

My going theory is that he actually mind controls the entire development staff through multiboxing them on his PC. This is why it seems like Yoshi-P has no time to himself.

It would explain why he drinks enough coffee and smokes enough cigarettes for 10 men.

Bah! Let the man have his caffeine and nicotine. It's only an absurd amount to the 'immortals' of the world.

I'm not faulting him, it's more of a statement of amazement. I used to smoke (never got into coffee) but the most I could ever manage was about a pack a day. The man smokes Lucky Strikes, they're not exactly smooth Smiley: tongue

His mind is probably constantly on a swivel... and looking at all those screens each and every day i can only imagine the headaches one would get... cigs and a gallon of coffee shouldnt hurt him to bad ;P

I have a friend who regularly drinks ~18 cups of coffee a day. He used to bring a giant thermos to work which held like 12 cups... then he'd go to Dunkin Donuts at least twice a shift. I just don't know how he does it. I can drink 1 cup of coffee and I'm jittery as hell, and then have an awful stomach ache for a couple hous. If I drank 18, I think I would literally die.

Dunkin Donuts coffee is relatively watered down. I have a coffee machine that's constantly brewing what is, essentially, motor oil in my office that tends to keep me going.

I'm assuming that's an exaggeration, but if not, you should urge him to stop or he's gonna die.

It takes quite a bit before the caffeine will actually kill you. 18 cups a day isn't even close.

To be sure though, 18 cups of coffee on a regular basis is a lot. I'd be more concerned with what it's doing to the guy's teeth.

Nope, not an exaggeration. I watched him do it on a regular basis. Of course, this was several years ago and we were unloading trucks for a toy store at 4 am, so there were definitely some circumstances. But still, I know him today and he still drinks an excessive amount of coffee. On top of that, he has Crohn's Disease and eats like a horse. I honestly have no idea how he survives, but he does and he isn't a vegetable. I play in a hockey league with him whenever I can.

I had a coworker who would drink 3 pots herself before coming into work. She used to give out prescription drugs to people who had aches and pains, we called them "kimmies" since her name was Kim. I always told her she was going to get sued if someone died because of that but she never listened to me.

But that much caffeine will make you "so excited."

Woah, I just had an 80's flashback. It was scary.

Since "coffee" has hijacked the thread! We all got to remember that caffeine will affect us all differently. Coffee comes in all verities and no not all coffee is bad for you, especially in moderation. There was one study that a specific kind in the right usage could help with colon C. In the end I would rather drink coffee than some of the energy drinks out there that are an experiment on how much crap can keep u un naturally on edge all the time!

I am more of a tea person but I can't knock on coffee.

I was watching some show (I forget the name) or rather my wife was watching it, but it is about people who have weird habits like eating sand, eating cat hair, some dude in love with their blow up water toys.

In response to the coffee lol, there was a couple that gave themselves coffee enemas. They preferred certain brews over others and certain temperatures over others lmao
