Upgrading to CE?Follow

#1 May 29 2013 at 4:27 PM Rating: Decent
Hi, I've had FFXIV 1.0 For a while, and I'm wondering if I can upgrade it to CE instead of pre-ordering the new one that is available in the store.

Right now the word on the street is the 1.0 regular edition cannot be upgraded to a CE, meaning the CE items can only be obtained if you a) had a CE for 1.0 or b) forsake your 1.0 account and use the new CE. It's upset more than a few people so perhaps this will change, it sounds like the CE items are tied to the service account, not the SE account.

While this is true, SE is offering a digital upgrade. So 1.0 players can upgrade, but NOT with a physical copy of the game.

Link to that? I ask because there much anger and rage on the internet right now regarding this and I haven't seen any proof to the contrary.

Another thing I wanted to add, is that if he does choose to upgrade to the digital CE, he'll also receive the new CE in game items.

Am I missing where it says you can upgrade your 1.0 standard account to a CE account?

Ok I see what the problem is. You get the digital CE, meaning you miss out on the book and all the other stuff. If you want all that stuff, You can't have the digital stuff on your 1.0 character since the in-game CE items aren't transferable.

Ah ok. So digital upgrade = digital items only. If you want the book etc you have to pay full price. Which does make some sense. As a 2.0 CE purchaser I'm not expecting to get the mug and what not from the 1.0 version. Or do I not have it right?

No you're right, but if someone wanted to pay the extra money for the 2.0 CE and they didn't have the 1.0 CE, shouldn't they be able to apply those 2.0 CE digital items (not the preorder items) to their 1.0 characters? Right now SE is saying no, that can't happen.

It's a similar debacle to when 1.0 released, where if you created a character before activating your code for the onion helm, you were basically SOL. You had to start a brand new character AFTER activating the codes to get the item. You'd think 3 years later they would have fixed something so basic. Thank goodness I ordered the 1.0 CE (lol, never thought I'd say that).

Ok, here's what I'm reading:

"The Collector's Edition digital upgrade offers customers the ability to upgrade their standard FFXIV account to digital Collector's Edition status via the “FFXIV Service Center” website that is scheduled to be opened at the launch of official service, which then grants the in-game bonus items included with the Collector's Edition. Customers in possession of the Collector's Edition for either version 1.0 or A Realm Reborn will receive these Collector's Edition items without needing to purchase the upgrade."

That reads to me that if you have a standard 1.0 version and pay the $20 to upgrade you get the digital items and if you already have 1.0 CE you get them automatically.

ETA: I'm so glad I'm starting from scratch now lol

Yeah, most people are completely confused about pricing and digital items.

Surprisingly, this time around, SE is actually doing a somewhat decent job of informing everyone, it just seems that people aren't reading the information correctly. However, SE isn't doing a great job clarifying the deluge of questions that they're getting.

Right but I'm talking about people who want the 2.0 physical items and have a standard 1.0 account. It sounds to me like you have to choose between your 1.0 char and the 2.0 digital stuff.

This definitely presents a problem, and should have been taken into consideration when the marketing team put these bundles together. An easy solution would be for your ARR CE code to overwrite your 1.0 CE code.

I checked your post, but this was all I could find...

I'm logged in with my account that has 1.0 purchased, and it doesn't give me any options to upgrade. Am I in the wrong place?

The information in my sticky says the upgrade option won't be available to purchase until the official release date.
