I must applaud SE for the final part of CT they released today
Its a fun raid, you just need to look at it and see, yup, thats extremely Final Fantasy.
Some of the trash mobs are actually challenging.
I did not particularly like CT. ST I liked, and WoD looks amazing this far

Granted, we did a blind FC Alliance run - and we are a fairly casual bunch so some barely cleared min ilvl requirement to enter.
And further the role proportions was off - Think it was five tanks and four healers.

But still, there was lots of laughter and a couple of surprises on the run.
Who knows, next time we might actually clear it before we run out if time :)

Ran it twice now, still no win.

I'm sure it'll become 2nd nature in time, but for now... wow.

That last boss scares the crap outa me. It's like the Ring girl.... but on a Godzilla proportion

Well... After 4 tries abandon duty seems to be the way forward. Gonna try again next week I guess when things settle down.

Just like ST, the hardest fight is the first one, the rest are much easier. The Cerberus even manages to be the strangest fight I've ever been in. Getting shrunk down to miniature size, eaten, fighting off the critters in his stomach, and then being vomited back up is one hell of a thing. Anyway, I got the DRG body on my first run, so I won't be bothering with it again until next week.

It's fun. Cleared it on my first DF run, but had plenty of wipes. Had some people rage quit over one wipe. I still don't understand why people expect everyone to be perfect at content when it's been out for less then a day.

My biggest problem on the first boss was that I got so caught up with other mechanics, I kept forgetting to watch for doom.

For doom, I made a habit of keeping my back turned unless I was fighting the boss. That way, I didn't have to worry about watching for it.

Sadly in one day there's people that have already run it 10 times and assume everyone else has done the same. The same types who run the new primals 100 times on day one with their FCs, get one win towards then end and start up their PF groups the next day: MUST HAVE WON SEVERAL TIMES! Then they wonder why no one joins.

Only had one run of this so far, which timed out.

The bosses were the only tough part for us, all of which took several tries to nail down (and only had 30 minutes left for CoD, which wasn't enough). Even afterward there's still several mechanics of each fight that I don't fully understand. Trash pulls were all easily one-shotted.

I'm glad to see they didn't make it a faceroll, but man, running this is going to be a nightmare for a while. Even LotA (which I still consider a harder raid than Syrcus) wasn't this bad at release.

Oh, and this dungeon is quickly making me wish they remove vote abandon from the game. Then my more rational side kicks in and says they ought to make it so that if someone tries to vote abandon and it is rejected, that person shouldn't be able to attempt to initiate it again for the remainder of the instance. (Although someone else in the group would still be able to do so.) It's irritating when you get some tool who tries to vote abandon after EVERY WIPE, even when they should know after the first one or two tries that it's not going to succeed, not necessarily knowing who it is that's doing it and therefore the rest of the group being unable to do anything about it.

You know what, I like my idea so much that I'm going to post on the OF about it. They actually did implement my earlier suggestion to prevent AoE damage on players who are gathering, so who knows, maybe they'll listen again!

I enjoyed CT, I liked the fact each party had to do "their part" to make it work. You had the full on Alliance fights but the separate go your way and fight on your own.

ST I really enjoy too though.

Darkness - Brilliantly done, the mechanics in some of the fights are not your typical "Dodge" which does get a bit boring at times.

A few people have criticised SE over XIV but the masses have spoken.

Got my win late yesterday, even got a nice tanking helmet out of it.

Granted it was FAR from my first attempt.

"First" attempt was when i mistakenly had "in progress" flagged off, waited 40 minutes, got in just in time to see the Vote Disband come up and that was a total waste of time.

Second run wasnt too bad. People listened, people worked in teams. We got past all the bosses and even figured out how to kill Cloud of Darkness, but despite having 50 minutes left for her, we continuously wiped on little stuff we shouldnt have been wiping too.

Third run was AWEFUL. Everyone was complaining, everyone was fighting (amongst themselves mind you), people were impatient and pulling going "you should know the mechanics" afterwards, when it's the -first day- a few hours in. I tried to explain the first boss, twice, but no one was listening or willing to work together. Another two wipes later i knew this group wasnt going to go anywhere so i ate my 30 minutes like a man.

Fourth run was decent, but not particularly great. A LOT of trolling going on already, people moving markers, people removing markers claiming they're "in the way", as well as unsurprisingly complaining they ran into Gastric juices because they "didnt see them", no **** sherlock, i marked them so you'd know where they were. Was tanking but barely got cured. Frustrating really. Died more than i should have. Wasnt a particularly bad group, but halfway in a Vote Disband came up and passed, pissed the hell out of me...

Fifth run i brought a friend along. Changed jobs from PLD to BRD so it would be "easier", explained every fight to the people participating, they were willing to hold the pulling till i did, and seemed like they wanted to listen and get past this thing. Only real trouble was Cloud of Darkness again, but completely opposed to my expectations, they were actually listening. Called out the attacks/phases that were comming up, they took care of all of them quite well. Had a few people not in the starfall-like spheres near the cloud phase so we wiped again. Couple of tries later, improving each time we beat it. And i got a nice tanking helmet out of it.

Still preferably wouldnt get back into World of Darkness till after people get better at it :/

Overal: Good dungeon, Good mechanics (even though most are instant-wipe if you mess up), Bad people.
It's not a particularly hard dungeon if you get the mechanics down, but a few people not participating properly will wipe you.

I ran it yesterdat via DF also. We won on my first (and only) run of the day, but it took almost all of the time and lots of death. I did get to figure out some things along the way like:
Those glowing platforms that spin around the room cancel out doom.
Standing on the glowing pizza slice on first boss after last hourglass is killed will instakill you.
When targeted by (crap, cant remember which boss), group together so the damage is shared , otherwise you eat 9999 dmg.
Kill all the clouds or you get murdered.

We made it to last boss with 30 min left, and managed to pull out a win, and i got brd boots. It was fun for sure.

Got BRD boots as well. Ton of fun, and I agree with another poster above, first boss is far harder than the next two. Cloud of Darkness, took us four tries, but it was clear that people were actually paying attention because we did better with each run: 50% the first time, 30-something the second, 5% third, and the fourth clear with no troubles at all. For now, for right now, when many people don't know what to do, COD is brutal. Once most of us get it down, I expect it'll be almost as easy as Xande.

I'm 0/1 on WoD, but only because the emergency maintenance cut about 25 minutes off of our clock. I'm sure we would have beaten the final boss with one more attempt... we improved big-time during the first two attempts.

Fun raid, and can't wait to run it tonight and get the "W."

I have not made it through yet.. I did it earlier yesterday and none of the people had tried it yet that I got on with in DF...
Well it was a learning experience and it is going to be very hard with DF..

The problem we had is with people dropping.. This was a first time for everyone..
Really is frustrating because you learn the fight and almost beat it and someone people rage quit. Well the new people who came in never tried it before either so you start over and then some more quit and some other new people come in.

Why are so many people that play this game such babies? Are they all expecting to get carried through or do they think everyone should be able to make it through their first try?



So which is it?

We didn't get far enough for me to have a opinion of it yet though.. I liked CT better than ST but I liked them both...

Just finished my first run. Luckily I had a good group, no wipes, very few deaths. Managed to get a piece of tank gear off the first boss, so that was also a plus. I honestly think this is no harder then CT or ST, just a couple new mechanics people have to figure out.

Problem is you have so many different types of players. Ones who do a ton of end game, play a ton and try to figure things out as they go. Those that'll read guides and be good to go. Then you have some people who really just want treasure for the looks, some who just want the story and don't really care about the fights in general, the list goes on and on. So you get a mish mash of this and depending how many you have of each, it can make things pretty difficult at times.

I say give it another week, and you'll be frustrated for that one run that didn't go so well out of 10.

Always the issue with MMOs, we all play for different reasons, and some take certain things more seriously then others.

We did a second attempt to do a full FC Alliance run in WoD tonight - and this time we cleared it!
Not much time left on the clock but still a clear :)
I even got a drop for it, much better looking than the ST gear IMO.

Will try a DF run tomorrow and see how that works out

Now that people are actually clearing it you'll see people drop when their item doesn't drop or after they get their item. It's like CT/ST when they released, it's pretty sad but Yoshida designed the raid system in this game where that honestly does nothing. Imagine if you got your gear after doing Dynamis/Limbus/Nyzul and dropped out. Or if you got a card from Odin's Temple and left.

I rolled into duty finder with a WoD group that apparently has been spamming it. Cleared it with 30 minutes to spare. I think the bosses just have a lot more HP. Also, the Cerb fight is kind of gross. Dog vomit everywhere.

I kind of had a feeling that G'raha Tia would have the sort of ending he did. That's why I made sure not to get too attached to his character.

Well I got in a group last night and we just rolled it no problem.. No restarts at all.
Tried a second time and the group rolled the first boss no issues and then could not get by the second one.. I think group A was trolling us..
Still like the first CT better.. I dont know again it dont feel much different just turned up a notch... You tired of dodge affects well we will add even more of them... I do like the first fight though, it has some cool mechanics. Very unusually looking and beautiful dungeon/raid.

Tried Odin last night.. We got a little past 1/2 way with a dragoon that was dc'ed. Tried a few more time and got just a little farther before they abandoned. Any tips?

Odin is a DPS check. having one afk DRG = you're gonna fail.

Most Odin clears will be with very little time to spare. At Fan Fest, we killed him with DoTs after Zanzetsuken started.

Tips: Have the off tank use their DPS ability (e.g. take off Shield Oath and put on Sword Oath, or turn off Defiance) and have one healer (if you have one WHM and one SCH, make it the SCH) focus on DPS as well. A good WHM can heal that fight with only minimal support from a second healer. (Alas, two SCHs cannot heal that fight.)

Pretty much WoD and Odin are checking your progress which is why if you happen to get "new" people or "I'M HERE FOR ZE GLAMOURZ!" only people, this is what seem to cause a lot of fails to happen. I've done 40 Odins and at least 23 WoDs so far and I can safely say it's definitely going to show you who is slacking and who isn't.

Which brings another point - Odin had potential (as with a lot of ARR stuff) but it seems it was more of an after thought than anything since people were begging for the Fan-Fest only encounter. It's a bit weird it drops glamor items only (especially with that ilvl...) but require i95 to enter. Even though he says he treats it as a type of 'Ultima Hard Mode', Ultima: Minstrel's Ballad dropped gear you could actually use as it was higher ilvl, not 45 ilvls lower than the entrence ilvl. Another tip is, if you have a BLM who is actually geared and knows their rotation, they can actually burn down a gungnir in the time it takes your other DPS to clear 1 and 1/2 of them so if you can see that happening, you definitely should meet the final DPS check. So if you trust who you're with and meet a DPS check, it's probably the easiest modern primal fight next to Shiva.

Aside that, having 2 SCHs may make things a bit hectic due to only having EoS's regen, so a WHM and SCH team is best to keep people healed up through that phase due to the stacked regens, that way you don't blow through a lot of MP like it seems some people do (especially when people don't listen with the magenta AoE indicator.)

Seriously, you only need one tank for Odin. DF puts in two tanks. Two paladins, forget it. You need 5 dps to make that fair. We barely barely barely beat it in my df with 1% to spare after I decided to OT with my paladin and equip strength accessories.

The boss at the end of story mode is also a DPS check when you get pulled into the alternate world, have to cast all your cooldowns as you get pulled in, and then the dps have to kill that Tear as fast as possible while the tanks get meteors.

It died while we were in its stomach and it took a full 2 minutes for him to purge us after death lol.
