Result of 2.55 (massive spoilers)Follow

#1 Apr 01 2015 at 2:22 PM Rating: Default
This is my notes for the end result of 2.55. Be warned - GIGANTIC spoilers here.

Nanamu Ul Namo is murdered with poison by Ilberd.
Raubahn locked in a jail cell with one arm missing.
His adopted son, Pipin, pledging to help resolve the problems in Ul'dah.
Teledji Adeledji murdered in vengeance by Raubahn.
Player accused of spying and treason and is on the run.
Crystal Braves and the Brass Blades working together and is now hunting the remaining Scions and the player.
Yda and Papalymo assumed dead in a self inflicted explosion.
Thancred and Y'shtola assumed dead in a self inflicted cave in.
Minfilia assumed dead when left behind to slow both the Crystal Braves and Brass Blades' pursuit of the player.
F'Lhaminn can be presumed dead or at the very least on the run. Was able to save Tataru by asking that she run.
Tataru and Alphinaud on the run and hold up under the protection of Hauchefant in Coerthas (Camp Dragonhead's Intercessory.
Yugiri now without mask (Au Ra features fully revealed) and helping the player and the two remaining Scions.
Rising Stones under lock and key by the Brass Blades.
Eorzean Alliance has all but been destroyed, perhaps permanently.
Kan-e-Senna and Merlwyb (cant spell her last name) ignored and walked away from both the player, the Scions and the plight of Ul'dah.
Ishgard under siege by the forces of the Draconian Horde.
Ascians have decided to attempt the same strategy in the north, where the Heavensward expansion takes place.
Finally, Urianger in discussion with the white robed Ascian (forgot his name)
Biggs and Wedge unaccounted for.
Cid and his airship, the Enterprise, helping the player escape.
End result being that the player has all but became homeless, an enemy of the state and is on the run.

If i left anything out, please reply below.

Suffice to say... the outlook for the player is so bleak, that it is now completely understandable that Ishgard now seems like your only option left.

Till you log in and teleport back to Ul'dah. lol.

But yeah, it seemed a lot more: "clean slate" type of setup since the story format of this game is each update is essentially its own story arc that shares a common theme. So it does set up the expansion's story, but there's still quite a bit that seems to be missing from the plot atm.

Nanamo's potentially not even dead. If you've done all your Paladin quests and talk to Jenlyns, he states that Nanamo is apparently very, very ill ... but not dead.

I wasn't even caught up on the story line before the patch (I dropped the ball after finishing Keeper of the Lake). But I'm half tempted to read it all in spite of all the spoiler warnings simply because it's April Fools day.

Saw this on Tumblr, sums it up pretty well:

SE: So, what do you want in patch 2.55?
Players: Just **** me up.

Yeah. Hate how MMOs try to shove a single player story through a multiplayer hole (yeah I know how that sounded) but I guess it just comes with the territory. Wish more MMOs would commit to story consequences though.

Storyline wise I like where this is headed. Shakes things up a bit.

Dont say i didnt warn you. I had a warning in the title, in the body in bright red AND had spoiler tags. You would have to be really asking for it to get past all those. I have taken every precaution to prevent anyone being spoiled.

WoW did it in much later expansions. They called it phasing. You would proceed past a certain point in the story and the entire region you were in, changes drastically. Anyone still doing those quests you recently completed, would be out of phase to you. All the changes that happened as part of the quest - were permanent.

It was awesome as it gave much weight to those stories.

I'm trying to understand the Urianger scene. From his perspective, is he somewhere else, like More Donuts and Elidibus is disguised as an emissary?

Yeah you got me. I got no idea. There are many things i have been trying to wrap my head around for the past 24 hours.

My single biggest beef with the entire last two quests was this:

Admiral! Raubahn has taken vengeance against a usurper and Ul'dah is falling apart around us!
http://imgur.com/0ow9ITD

OK then good luck Raubahn! Bai!
http://imgur.com/BAMA4a0

We had an alliance did we not? An EORZEAN alliance right? Did it just evaporate in the space of 10 minutes? What happened to Merlwvb's cold steel determination? What happened to Kan-e-Senna's voice of wisdom?!?! You will just WALK away and turn your backs on your sister nation? Seriously this section in the cutscenes gave me the biggest W T F moment.

Why did she run back, nothing she could do..
Anyway wow first time in the story that it actually seemed to move. Finally left wanting more from the story.
Finally some emotion and felt for the characters...

It's more along the quality you'd expect SE to do, which is why it irks me when they shove throwaway story and side quests into the main story. It actually felt less generic MMO intern writing the story and more "well in FF we tend to do this.."

At the little banquet, the Limsa and Gridania leaders (and perhaps Raubahn) were taking all the credit for the dragon battle that took me 10 tries to beat. Then turned their backs in the scuffle. Feels like every static group I've ever been in. Smiley: grin

But seriously, watch, the only loss is going to turn out to be Raubahn's arm. And Cid will probably build him an ironworks one or something. Pretty sure that blue guy's sword must have been a lightsaber, since there was absolutely no blood, and apparently you can get your arm lopped off in FFXIV, stand there holding it for 5 hours without a tourniquet, and not die.

The Alliance exists simply to repel the Garlean threat. This is internal Ul'Dahn politics. If someone assassinated the president of Mexico, no one in the US in their right mind would offer refuge to the accused perpetrators, even if they were a famous movie star.

One analogy someone tried to use on the official forums was Edward Snowden, but he's a whistleblower, and wasn't accused of murdering the president or anything.

That's not to say I'm not miffed at Merlwyb and Kan E Senna (especially since I'm in the Gridanian GC, wtf!) but I really do think their hands were tied and they were frustrated because they could not interfere.

And I'm proud to be an Immortal Flame, where at least I know I'm free, and I wont forget Raubahn's arm that died to give its life for me, and I proudly stand up! And run to Ishgard.

If anyone could, Raubahn could. Arm gets cut off? That just honks him off more!

You did give plenty of warning. It's just unfortunate timing. April 1st is the day I trust even the most trustworthy of people the least.

So for the last thing in the list.

I must ask :)

Does that mean we cockblocked from all cities, and all attempts of entry = guards outside attack us? :PPPP"

Oh man.. I know it's not true but that would be crazy if it were.

I doubt that would ever be the case because... quite frankly, it would wreck the game for those who finished the story. End result being... the word would get out and NOBODY would complete the main story for this reason.

If you go around and talk to NPCs, their reactions range from "we KNOW you're innocent" to "look I don't want to fight you because you'll kick my *** so please just go away" from some of the guards.

I'm not sure all NPC dialog has changed, but a lot of it did. I think that's a nice touch.

This brings up the obvious question of: How in Thal's Balls did 4 Brass Blades seriously take me ANYWHERE I didn't want to go? I don't know about you but when those guys drew those adorable swords on me, my first thought was "this is not going to end the way you want it to"

According to my cut-scene, my character was unarmed. I don't care how good I am, against 4 well armed soldiers without my weapon or soul-stone, I'm going to get my but cut down.

What i found most awesome and cool is the OTHER NPC's you can freely talk to who now REFER to the events of 2.55!

Like for example, Fufulupa in Horizon!

While I cant say much about him passing out and such.. Yoshi-p specificaly mentioned they cant have blood due to it not being allowed to be portrayed in certain countries.
