-Since then I have been hoping from game to game, still irritated that I lost over 30 hours of gameplay on FF5 and unable to save in FF6. Ended up working on KotOR. Not as enjoyable as FF6 but still a good game. Also I just rescued the jedi (what's her face) to give you a frame of reference on how far in I am.
Batteries do eventually get weak and start dying, unfortunately. You can try opening up the cart with a special type of bit (do some searches on the internet, they're fairly cheap), but unless you have some soldiering skills, this probably won't help you very much because they are usually attached to the circuitry. They use CR2032 batteries (all of the ones I've opened use these), though which are very common and easy to find at any Wal*mart or similar store.
That is why, these days, it is probably best that you hang onto the cartridges, but use emulated versions. They are not *technically* legal, but it is fairly unlikely you'd ever get caught, and surely if you own the actual cartridge and explain that since the battery has died and that those batteries are soldiered onto the circuitry in most cases, you're only using the ROM for that reason.
As for accuracy, well, BSnes boasts a 99.9% accuracy to the real thing and from what I've seen, it has been true to its word, though sadly things look heavily pixellated on a digital computer monitor though some people like that look. The only bad thing is that it requires a fairly strong computer to pull it off. For a controller, try a PS2->USB adapter; PS2 controllers make excellent SNES controller substitutes.
Anyways, my own weekend goals:
WoW: I'm hoping to get at least one of my various 88s to 90, and/or get my 82 Monk to 85. I'll continue doing dailies, dunno if I'll reach any milestones or not, haven't really done any calculating or anything of that sort. I'm thinking by Sun/Mon, I ought to be at least halfway to Exalted with August Celestials with my Tailor; I've almost enough cloth to make 6-7 bags. lol.
RL: Got Sat off, work Sun... hope to get some WoW stuff done.
Edit: Also, SNES cartridges were infamous for wiping the contents of their battery-powered RAM if the console is turned on and the pins in the cartridge are not making full contact (the blank screen, and/or random colors on screen). So even if you did replace the battery, chances are you'd lose your saves the next time you turned on the console and got a blank screen anyways.
