exactly, many elder jedi still think tehre better than everyone else, purely becasue they chose to spend there time grinding jedi, doesnt matter if someone else spent 10x the time they did, just doing other stuff/grinding other proffesions, they still thought they were better than you.

people also like to point out how easy it was to find a group pre nge, but, sadly, most people were looking for groups because they were grinding FS experience, or grinding there proff up so they could do the village

I guess for jedi fans, if it were something very secret and hard to achieve, jedi players would be respected and rare. If someone achieved that level they would want to keep it a secret and not just "give it away." I think it would create much more intereting dynamics to the class. Are there any "old" jedi out there who were pissed when they made the change?

See thats the thing is no one keeps anything secret they or someone they've told goes and posts some elaborate guide on the forum to score points with all the trolls and to be accepted into the circle of jerks that camp station.com gameplay discussion. If ppl wouldnt do that MMOs would be way more mysterious than they are.

Hell yea they were pissed they're still not over it after almost 3 years but thats what they get for wanting to uberwtfpwn everyone. Sorry I just have a bad taste for who they were and the personalities back then who populated them. I dont miss a single one.

And this is one of the main reason myself and hundreds of thousands of other people QUIT SWG after SOE f'd up with the "update". When I left the game there were only about 3 to 5 Jedi per server. That being the way it should have been. Unlocking your jedi slot was a hard thing to do, many mastered every single prof, did tons of quests..etc (which there used to be a ton of prof unlike now).

SOE has admitted already that they screwed up this game. Why people still play is hard to imagine.

I think pre-patch nine was the best way. My friend ground out 29 profs to unlock. He finally got it 2 days before patch 9 went live.

I still think it should be an unlockable class with maybe some sort of limit on the number of Jedi. It certainly needs to be harder to achieve than the old three month xp grind which it became after patch 9.

And Jerok, ftr, I was one of those that saw through it. I never ground jedi. I was happy with my wookie TKM/Mchef. I had the best of both worlds.

having a limit on teh number is a horrible idea aswell( no offense) becasue that merely means the people with no lives who can put 28 hours a day, 9 days a week time into can get it, while no one else can.

i think jedi is best where it is, there may be a decent amount, but there not an alpha class, which was ruining the game

kill em all and let the respec NPC sort em out

My idea, well back before the nge anyway, i never really thought about it since was that it should be kinda like it was post chapter 9, but without the grind.....well atleast till you unlocked, that i would of kept the same.

But instead of it being a number of set quests and badges it was totally random.

The badges and quests you need, would not be the same as the ones i need. Back in the day there was many little npc quests here there and everywhere. it would of took some luck and a lot of dedication to find them all especialy if you included more quests like the hero of tat was back in the day with the random spawning here there and everywhere. But been open to everyone reguardless of how much time they had to play.

But as time has gona on i have come to realise there is really no room for an Alpha class in a MMO, it just leads to.............well we all know where it leads to dont we.

Day 1 Vet.

Where the devs screwed up is not making an ALPHA CLASS FOR EVERY PROFESSION!

There should have been a system to make an unlockable ranking system for every profession, not just Jedi.

Trust me, there is no better feeling in an online game when you can beat down 15 overt/SF players by yourself, if you are willing to dedicate the time to be that elite.

To the guy who posted, you want no Jedi in game? Here you go. Problem Fixed.

well having an alpha for everyone may seem good, why not just have every class normal, and just have something like EQ AAs instead.

all it would end up being is everybody's the alpha version anyway, the only differance would be that they would make pvp sh*t for anyone who wasnt the alpha version yet.

Hmmm wouldn't that make all the profs equal so not alpha?? just a thought.

So basically you just wanna be able to roll over the noobs??

on second thought, AA's is a bad idea aswell, as it would completely unbalance and ruin any kind of pvp
#64 Feb 26 2008 at 2:38 PM Rating: Default
No, it would not make everyone elite, if you equal the time to...

1.Unlock a Alpha
2.Grind an Alpha
3.Advance in a ranking system after Alpha
4.Engage in battle to hold a ranking and benefits

It would not make everyone elite, it would make those that devote damn near their entire life to an MMORPG elite, which would be few.

So no, the n00bs wouldn't get owned, the n00bs would tag along an elite that could defend them, as every pre-9 Jedi knows. It's not only a beautiful thing to see in an online game, it gets people talking and saying, Holy **** it's <insert name here>, and next thing you know there's 20 people dead in seconds and some n00bs saying,"Awesome!"

so only those without jobs, school, lives, family, or a whole load of other commitments that get in he way of a goo mmo should be alpha? and the rest of us should just be here to blindly follow in awe and worship? or be their content?? and thats a good thing?

would they wear gold hawt-pants as well?

thanks for proving my point as to why alpha classes are wrong in a mmo

ya, alpha classes ruin mmos, i dont think theres been one mmo, that succesfully had alpha classes without it ruining the game

Well currently the way things are in game now is kind of like each class can become alpha. Once you reach 90 thats only the beginning for any of the iconic NGE profs. Theres GCW ranks you get from well GWC, PvP, Space, faction NPCs, etc.

I can kill alot of jedi with spy but those who know their jedi very well and who have taken the time to rank up, do collections and all sorts of new jedi stuff I dont know about, I can't beat those ones too well because I don't have the sickest of the collection weapons that make spy super uber nuker.

I get by on a non +35 suit, I know if I had +35s I would be able to take on the Jedi who have gone way beyound just leveling or respecing to 90. But those suits are millions and I didnt have the dedication or time with my crafted alt to keep pursuing +35 suit. Theres a new qst that rewards this carbine thats better than any range wep currently in game, but just getting to the qst is a journey itself.

If I had it in me i could push my spy farther up there but I am satisfied with killing respecs I suppose. I dont feel the need to be the best who beats the best on my server.

Not only just spy can pursue higher things but like commando can obtain certain jewlery from treasure maps as the other classes can that make the commando more powerful. The commando can grind restuss coms to obtain uber HW's and/or do the HK47 instance which takes group cooperation and get the lava cannon, giving him a fighting chance against jedi.

A smuggler can also do the smuggling quests and obtain a high end heat DoT pistol, making him more uber than the smugglers who haven't done the smuggling. Then theres the beasmaster grind for any class that wants to pursue that. A leveled up powerful pet and its master is a force to recon with.

So what I'm trying to say is we currently have some mechanics now that allow any class to stand out as semi-alpha if they have the time to invest, and any class that invest that time can give any advanced jedi a run for his money.

The Jedi class should not be removed, but it should be something that is rare to get and only after building your character a certain way, randomly you will be awarded with a quest to become a jedi if you choose to, then once finished training you can opt to fall to the darkside or continue to follow the jedi teachings.

I am a 4 year vet of SWG and feel that instead of getting rid of Jedi, they need to get rid of anything added to the game after 2005. I am a PRE-CU player and the game use to rock. There were also more people playing at that time. Ever since NGE they LOST almost a million people from the game. It is sad that something as stupid as WoW has more dedicated players and fans. SWG is only adding all this new stuff that has nothing to do with Star Wars because of all you crying noobs(Post NGE) asking for things that sould not even be affiliated with Star Wars in general. Aparently none of you have read the books, you only watch the movies and think you know it all.

wow is popular because its easy, and keeps getting easier, has nothing to do with dedicated fans.

for someone talking about crying noobs, you sure sound like one.

lost a million players? ya! more numbers pulled right some someones ***!

just sounds like someones pissed there actually adding some sort of ocontent to tehg ame now, and not just "grind proffesions over and over again with the occasional worthless mission" like it was before.

effectivly the only content the game had before was grinding jedi and space.

... i think its pretty much accepted, that the only version of Starwars that can be considered Kannon so to speak, is the film versions, if you follow the expanded universe series, which has so many different authors, there was bound to be contradictions, it only confuses the issue. in any case, they have no bearing on the SWG game. as for losing a million players, at the games peak even, there was only around 250k players, and a number of those were multiple accounts, its estimated that around 180k to 200k players quit after the CU and the NGE (mostly the NGE) but there are no hard figures. as for comparing this game with WOW, whats the point, they encompass completely different genres, SWG has always been something of a niche game anyway, more so now than before, as its just a small part of the SOE catalogue of games now, speaking as one of the SWG beta players, yes, we really do know it all ;D

By the state of the game, its better to have Jedi's running around than empty servers :D

The Jedi needed to be in game. Its a good class. Enjoy the class you like and let them be happy.

I am just playing this game now because it has jedi job. I wouldn't play for any other class.
