Brawl - IkeFollow

#1 Mar 12 2008 at 9:33 AM Rating: Decent
This doesn't deserve it's own thread but I want people to read and respond to this.

when I first saw Ike on the roster, I was calling him Ike(EE-KAY) using what I would consider japanese syllables.

However, the game says 'THE WINNER IS IKE(like EYE+K)

Now, is it just a bad localization, or was his name always intended to be EYE+K?

it really bugs me, because I still want him to be EE-KAY

How do you say Ike?

#2 Mar 12 2008 at 9:48 AM Rating: Good
The way the say it in game is the correct way, but dont fret. I still cant pronounce half the zones in ffxi.

Garlic Citadel

Boy-yoda tree

Sanctuary of Zee-TAH

Rew-Ann Gardens

VAL-KURM Dunes

BOO-BOO REE-MU Penninsula

Sore-ah-moogle champaign

ROle-an-berry fields

Pal-BORe-Oh! Mines

Temple of uggly puppies

Alt-EYE-You

Grand Palace of Who is Zoey?

Shrine of Roo-Avit-Toe

That's how you pronounce FFXI names

Qufim is pronounced Kif-eem, in case anyone didn't know.

I say it like the game does.

Also, I burst out laughing the first time I heard them cheering "We Like Ike! We Like Ike!".

He is from the Fire Emblem series, in which the characters have mostly English names so Eyek is correct.

However I am annoyed by the daydayday to deedeedee transition.

I remember hearing, a long time ago, that it was pronounced dedede, but very fast.

Also, to add onto Kayne list-o-ffxi names:

Bastok = bas-TOOK, not Bass-tock.

That cutscene is wrong, the proper pronunciation was revealed to be Bast-uhk at fanfest. Like the last part of the word barrack(the military dwelling thing)

His name was pronounced the same in Path of Radiance, which is the best Fire Emblem in my opinion; you should play it!

Also, Ike is by far the most manly lord that has been in a fire emblem game (of the U.S. released ones), but he's manly in the cool, Indiana Jones way. Ephraim was kinda manly, but not nearly as manly as Ike, and Ephraim has Erika bringing him down. This makes battles between Ike and Captain Falcon a veritable brawl between awesome Gods, and if you throw Solid Snake into the mix then the universe damn near explodes.

Ike can use his -> B as a recovery move and it's fantastic for both evasion as well as offense. Once I master foxtrotting it will be fantastic to have a fast, powerful move out of a canceled dash.

true, but it loses it's application when you're below the stage. Aether *can* be used as an aerial recovery but it's either hit or miss.

is foxtrotting what you call it when you repeatedly tap the movement button at a certain rhythm to dash around the stage? It never really worked that well for Ike IMO, but works especially well for Marth.

Foxtrotting is repeatedly using the initial dash animation for movement. You can dash dance at the end of each dash to change direction. The benefit is that you can cancel the dash animation with certain standing moves, rather than using a dash attack. The problem with foxtrotting in Brawl is the chance to trip. It's up to the player to decide if it is worth the risk.

I need to work it into my marth game. Since it has been made ridiculously easy to double fair with marth now, and especially since fair autocancels, I generally use double fair canceled with an fsmash for approaches.

I think c-stick usage is more important for me to get down though. I'm lazy with my aerials and always use control stick and attack, but my spacing suffers because of this.

Pensive you might want to look up "auto RAR" since I know you like to use Ike. There has been some nice discoveries about switching special from b to c stick.

Foxtrotting isn't worth it on anybody I use save for marth. I've done some extensive testing and found the regular running will still be faster than foxtrotting(save for on Marth for some reason) [by running I mean entering a dash and staying in it, not the typical type of movement]

I'm still practicing myself; it's not easy yet, and I'm still not sure what the timing is to trigger the dash dance. A one-way trot is easy enough, but reversing isn't. The only real use I'd have for it is side b or a, and I honestly like to up-smash cancel the dash more than to the side. We'll see anyways, if I can master the technique. I'll probably just take a day soon and go into training to slow down the animations and work til I bleed.

Kayne, the foxtrot isn't really to get more speed out of your dash; the reason to do it is so you can do smash attacks out of a dash, instead of having to wait for the cooldown animation. Since you can't do the wavedash jump cancel thing anymore, this (in theory) will get you a great advantage on charging people.

>.> Awesome

I have noticed (for what it's worth) that I seemed to get the trot timing more easily on marth.

It gives you a great deal of immunity while hanging on the edge, simply because someone standing on the edge, attempting to guard you, will get the **** beat out of them if they are caught in the upswing. As long as you don't go early it shouldn't fail you.

I'd like to think I'm pretty good with sonic, but I always get caught up in things and eventually ring myself out.
