LoTRO for Dummies?Follow

I just downloaded LoTRO over the weekend and so far have played less hours than I spent downloading the game. (OK, so I'm just starting.)

I was wondering, when choosing quest rewards between cloth and leather armor, is there some place that says what classes or levels wear different types of armor? (I've looked through the game manual and don't see it.)

Armor comes in the varieties of light, medium and heavy. Minstrels start out only being able to wear light but can later wear medium. I think Loremasters are stuck with light. I'd assume tanks can wear heavy and dps types medium.

What you can wear, of course, depends on class and level.

However, stuff you CAN'T currently equip, for whatever reason, will show up with a big ol bold red outline around the picture box in your quest-chat and inventory.

OK, thanks - yes, I noticed the red outline for the leather armor item. Unfortunately, this didn't give me any idea on whether I'd ever be able to use that type of armor for my hunter.

Here's a list of what each class can wear sooner or later. Note that some classes must expend a trait slot to eventually wear some types of armor.

Hunters: Medium
Minstrels: Medium
Loremasters: Light
Burglars: Medium
Guardians: Heavy
Captains: Heavy
Champions: Heavy

Guardians can also equip heavy shields. I don't know off hand if any other class can do so.

Champions get normal sheild use, then at level 30 they can slot a trait for heavy shields.

The rest of the info is pretty right on though. All classes can wear Light Armor...some classes can wear Medium/Heavy at the start...others have to get a class trait and equip it at a bard in order to do so.

Another thing to keep in mind is if the armor isnt an upgrade, then pick the reward that's worth the most cash to a vendor (mouse over the item, the vendor price will be at the bottom)

Only the Minstrel needs to slot the class trait to wear Medium armor. They cannot wear Heavy.

Burgs/Hunters get Medium armor as a passive trait.

Guards, Champs, Captains get to wear Heavy (Captains at level 20). They can all wear medium from the start.

Lore-masters are stuck with Light armor.

All classes can wear Light armor.

I'd also suggest you not worry about what you can wear later. For the most part, when the time comes that you can wear something heavier, you'll have much better options available.

Pick items that are usable upgrades first, and items with the highest vendor value second.
