Anyone giving "Age of Conan" a try? (was forum=28)Follow

#1 Apr 09 2008 at 7:30 PM Rating: Decent
I am one of the many sick of WoW and looking for an alternative. I had been holding my breath for Warhammer, but who knows how many more delays that project is going to recieve. Age of Conan is coming out May 20th. Some of my guildies from WoW were playing the Beta for AoC and were raving about it. So I did a little reading on it, and it sparked my interest. Anyone else going to give it or go when it comes out, or any that has participated in the beta?

Edit: Allow me to make this post a bit more exemplary of the OOT Forum.

A pork omlette servered over rice and smothered in chili sauce makes for a fine breakfast.

Age of Conan will not be successful.

What's your measure of a successful MMO?

Being able to capture a broader audience outside of a niche.

So what do you think is AoC's niche? Disgruntled WoWers looking for an alternative while awaiting Warhammer? Personally, I think the PvP system and Combat system look interesting at least.

I think it's niche is more PvP Players looking for something new.
I swear MMO's seem to be focusing more and more on PvP action then Players teaming up for PvE.
They should start a new Genre called MMOPvP

Seriously Vat take a look at the front page of that forum. It's smash bro's or bust. Also, I prefer the effort and style that are applied to unhelpful replys in the OOT.

I have been following AoC for awhile, perhaps close to twenty years. I really like how it looks, and will probably try it at some point, but I'm a bit worried that they're rushing it, and I' was burnt by Vanguard last year. However, I really like the more involved combat system and the mature rating. I applied for the beta a long time ago, but haven't gotten in.

Good luck to you whatever you decide to do with your gaming time!

This is how a guru posts. Helpful, and kind! I'm a guru.

It is rather excessive right now, but there are at least a couple non-brawl threads. And if you post another non-brawl thread it will be replied to. Smiley: tongue

I agree, but that's sort of the same niche that Warhammer Online is looking to fill. Simply put, the hardcore pvpers from WoW aren't happy with the direction of WoW pvp, and they are looking for alternatives. I really enjoy PvP in MMO's, but I think that is can have the negative effect of degrading the community. PvP makes games harder to balance, which breeds jealousy and whining, and the competitiveness doesn't doesn't really support a positive community. Outside of guild mates, I felt that the WoW community was ****, and for some of the above reasons. I have played some other MMO's where the community idea of collectivism has been much more successful, and that made it a much more plesant experience to log in each day.

Agreed, hopefully that will equate to less 12 year olds.

WRAONG!
more mature rating = more 12 year olds.
If you want a game with a bigger adult:kid ratio, Hello Kitty MMO probably has a higher chance.

End game raiding in that game was just too much for me. Some of those bosses took tens of thousands of hugs and kitty kisses to kill, it was ridiculous.

AoC has very little chance of sucsess, here are a few reasons.

1. it's combat system is fatally flawed according too every single report i have read outside company sponcered releases.

2. It's not an MMO it's a online console game thats badly disguised as a MMO, once people realise this they will leave in droves.

3. It has one gimmic, and other than that it has nothing, no depth in gameplay.

4. It doesn't have a midgame or endgame, no group focused content, no raid focused content.

If you go on the MMORPG.com forums it gets blasted on a daily basis.

I'd love to give it a try, but I don't think my computer is powerful enough to handle it. From what I've been hearing, you need a pretty powerful rig to run even on medium settings.

After looking at the game a bit, I'm actually going to give it a try.

Will be pre-ordering it in a few days (probably just before it comes out)

Going to be going a Tempest of Set, as my mate and another guy that's coming along from WoW are going Necromancers.
If I wasn't going Tempest of Set (Which means we wouldn't have a healer) I'd be going Herald of Xotli, cause they sound awesome (Druids of AoC, except they transform into demons, not animals)

Going in for an interview next week to possibly be hired as a GM on Age of Conan. Regardless of how it turns out, I'll have a decent job and free MMOing for a while.
