Don't own it yet myself (waiting for a paycheck), but played it a little yesterday and it's just as fun as all the old ones (I'm also a big fan).

The Mushroom course is interesting and the Wario Mine Shaft is crazy at times.

My thoughts on this game are the same as my thoughts on Brawl. Nice try Nintendo, you made a fun game, but you could have done better.

When I read about the battle mode I was greatly displeased. It seems Nintendo is trying very hard to force their concept of what multiplayer should be on gamers. The solution is simple really, give players options. It is not possible to have too many options. If players feel all the options are cluttering the screen then you put then in another optional submenu.

Force team point matches are simply silly. Silly like forced random 4 player FFA 2 minute timed matches.

I agree 100%. I like the N64 version of battle. 3 balloons, then you're out. None of that respawning or team crap.

I owned on Mario Kart 64 so much. I didn't even know how to properly drift and boost but still smoked everyone.

But, I never got a gamecube, so I didn't get to play that one. And I'm still waiting to find a Wii and PS3 available to buy :(

if your looking for a ps3, wait till the MGS4 bundle comes out, its the same price as a current 80 gig, but has a DS3 insyead of a sixaxis, plus MGS4.

Problem I have with this game is they are all just too much the same. Yea we got a handful of new courses but all in all its not different enough for me to want to go spend $50. Personally I liked the N64 version about the best. I had the GBA version and DS version and they wasn't all that much different then previous versions.

Also Nintendo is too strict on there on-line play. I guess they are scared to death that a kid might get in trouble, but friend codes are annoying.

My favorite was the SNES one. Then again, that jaded me into thinking that all racing games should involve launched weapons.

One of the most annoying things about the Wii version is the severe item imbalance. More racers per game = more racers in lower positions = more game breaking items = much more luck dependent than any of the other games. So many people in lower positions means there's an almost constant stream of blue shells, pow blocks, lightning, squids, bullet bills, and other things that ***** you up, and there's nothing you can do but sit there and take it and hope you don't get blown too far back in the positioning. Mario kart has always had that item based element of luck, but with so many more racers per race it's much more obvious and annoying in this version.

I wish there was an item select option like in smash bros. Losing a race because the other guy was better or because he hit you with a well placed banana or mushroom is fine. He was the better racer, that's how it goes. Losing because you keep getting hit with blue shells/pow blocks/lightning while the people in 5th/6th/7th place zoom past you in the aftermath is just stupid.

I actually love the fact that in Mario Cart you could go from worst to first even on later laps.

In my mind that is what makes it a great party game. Crushing Defeats and narrow victories. That is what makes the game memorable.

I'm also assuming you're one of the people that plays SSBB/SSBM on final destination w/o item all the time?

Seriously, that's what makes it fun. The off-chance that you're 10 second lead will get smashed down by a blue shell in the final lap IS fun. Granted, I have yelled at the TV for this, regardless, the randomness of never knowing what items are coming or the off chance that you're going to jump from first to seventh makes the game more intense. It makes you use your items, while in the leading spots, more decisively. Saving a mushroom for when you get inked, or when a bullet bill is riding you. Keeping a banana behind you so you don't get hit by a shell. Finding a jump to avoid a pow. And lightning isn't that hard to recover from, seeing as how everyone ahead of the person that used it gets zapped. The blue shell is evil, but I haven't seen it as much as I would have thought.

Blue shell is really the only one that really hurts the top 2-3 racers, and it is pretty easy to recover from. The rest just help someone move from like 8th to 4th or 5th, so I don't see it as a major problem, especially since I see maybe 1 blue shell a race.

Don't get me wrong. I love items. They're fun and add a whole other level of skill and an interesting element of randomness. Blue shells blowing me out of first occasionally is fine. It happens, I can deal with it. What I don't like is the overabundance of the "guaranteed to ***** you over" items that comes from having so many people in the lower ranks this time around.

Nintendo really needed to have reworked the item ranking system when they added more people to each race. In the previous games there's was always the chance of getting blown out by a blue shell at the last second, but in general games were won based on the skill of the racer. This time around skill takes a backseat to item luck. In the wii version skill often means nothing because there is ALWAYS someone with a super item just waiting to completely negate all your skillful driving.

Looool.

I was just doing the 150cc Flower cup. I had gotten first in the first three, then dead last in Wario's Mine. I still tied for the gold.

I honestly liked Double Dash a lot. I think they should have left the option to play in that mode in the game.

Haven't played very far yet, only beat the first three cups on 50cc. Still loving Toad as a main racer, will probably pick up a heavier character with a higher top speed for time trials.

I'm kinda annoyed with the volume of mass destruction weapons too. At one point, I had a squid hovering over me, a POW block, and two warnings, one for a red shell, and one for a blue shell. That's some ******** right there.

And you're playing as Toad. You just have a deathwish, don't you?

Personally, I like King Boo on the Shooting Star or Diddy Kong on the Squidmobile thingy.

Peach has always been my favorite (although I used Toad a lot in the N64 version), but I haven't seen any of the unlockable characters yet so idk who I'll use in the long run.

And another example of too many weapons of mass destruction, I just finished a grand prix where in one of the races, this series of events occurred in the span of about 5-10 seconds.

I got shrunk
Inked
Had a POW block, and ANOTHER SQUID hovering over me,
was hit by a red shell,
followed by a green shell,
then a blue shell,
finally, the person who was in 7th place (by a long long way) hit me as a bullet bill.

For ***** sake, I may just sell this ******* thing tomorrow it's irritating me so bad.

This is how I've seen it:

50cc: Laa-dee-daah...ooh, you hit me with a red shell, you bad person!

100cc: Dude, I just got hit with a blue shell, then pounded, then thrown off the ledge

150cc: The game starts to realize that it's no longer the game v game v game v you, its strictly game v you.

Mirror: *fetal position*

And a lot of the unlockables are done by time-trials, and getting Star+ rankings.
