I logged onto the wii shopping channel today, and saw Dr. Mario in the Wiiware channel. I shall now disappear into oblivion as I play one of the games I actually BOUGHT the Wii for!!!

It's *awesome*, and includes online play! Just figured I'd mention it!! WOOOOOOOO!!

[Edit: It's 10k points which is $10.]

Is it just straight up Dr. Mario like the NES/SNES one? Or does it have an lolstoryline like the 64 one?

No storyline that I've seen. But there's a DS version (so sayth my husband, I've never played the DS). There's online play that's fun, but trying to meet up with a friend is ridiculously convoluted making it truly unusable.

The N64 music is all included, which is fun! One can choose their virus and speed level if playing with a friend at home. Always fun since it gives even newbies a chance while challenging those of us who've played this game for years on other consoles.

The game would have been $5 if it had been a virtual console release, but because it's a Wiiware release it's $10 and well worth it, imo!

How come? Nintendo sucks for letting you meet people online but if you are already friends with them it's normally pretty painless to connect with them through a code. How is it in this one?

Speaking of Wii Ware I'm looking at My Life as a King right now, and it looks interesting. Even after you buy all of the add-ons it shouldn't be more than 30$. If they put a full sized game into the thing then it might actually be a good deal. Maybe I'll try it after a few other games...

Normally, yes. But here you don't see if they're online playing a game with someone else (like Mario Kart...not sure how Brawl or Strikers does it). So the only way to play with a friend is enter a lobby titled "Play with friend" and then HOPE they decide to see if you want to play and come to sit in the lobby as well. Otherwise, you'll sit in the lobby FOREVER as they merrily play in other lobbies, blissfully unaware that you're waiting for them.

So we have to CALL our friends and tell them we're going to play. A retarded system for one done so well elsewhere (Kart) on the same system, imo.
