My AoC is not as smooth as I'd like, so was thinking about upgrading my vid card, as people in OOC chat were raving about a NVIDIA Geforce 8800 made by BFG that is really good. I went out shopping around and could only find a NVIDIA 8600. The next step down I suppose. Does anyone know if this would do the trick for me?

Would it be a decent card to play with?

Well, I can say that the Geforce 8800GT is a good card to play the game with. I've not had a single issue graphically *knock on wood*

Personally, I'ld try and find a 512mb vid card if you're going to go with a new one. If you can play the game for a bit and try and locate such one, for instance an 8800, I would advice it.

That 8600 doesn't seem bad though, but it would be a bit of a waste not to get one that might last a while longer considering that the games are not going easy on the computer lately.

I'd look at an online parts supplier, for an 8800GT.

With near max graphic settings, you can still get a decent 50-60 FPS. At default you can get 90-100. There is a huge difference in the game running with draw distance at 100, and at 1000.

I didn't know what I was missing til I was level 15, decided to graphic tweak a bit, and turned up to 1500 on the draw distance (Default is 100, I believe). I went out the the White Sand Isle... it was just a "WOW" moment. It looks 100x better when you can see everything in the distance.

Not familiar with graphic cards so I don't know what's good and what's not, different brand names with different model numbers throw me off. Like MSI, how do I know what would be equivilent to the BFG Nvidia Geforce series? /boggle

Thanks for your tips. I'll check around to see about the 8800.

I bought an 8600GT for like $120 5 months ago and I am doing pretty well with the game so far. Run on medium with shadows off and texture cache up. I average about 35-40 fps.
