It has been out for about a week or so. Just wondering what people who have played it (or people who haven't but have researched it) think about it?

I'll be honest: I'm very tired of FFXI. I have played since NA release with two years of combined experience in WoW from about a year in a break from FFXI. I really need something refreshing from these linear games. I am currently building a new PC so it can support AOC and games like it. Though, I haven't made up my mind completely.

Mind you, I am not building the PC specifically for AOC. Games that require that intense amount of computer capabilities are bound to pop up here in the next year or so. Might as well be prepared.

Thanks in advance for your opinions. =)

General consensus seems to be "I paid to play a beta?"

Jordster has made a "10-day impression from a WoW player's perspective" review over on the WoW main board.

Isn't that the general consensus no matter what MMO is released? Hell, Eve Online and WoW is still effectively in Beta, balancing and rebalancing everything from classes to game mechanics with every patch. Because they just can't get it juuuuust right.

Of course, they have both rooted out most of the bugs by now.

There's certainly a great degree of difference. Vanguard's release and WoW's release differed vastly in the preparedness of the game.

AoC shows all the sign of a game that will descend into niche status. The system requirements cut off a large portion of the market, the game was released quite unfinished, and it tries to be overly quirky in it's ui combat setup which really doesn't fundamentally change the game from any other MMO as it was purported.

Yeah, I was just being cranky with MMO devs, game critics and your average gamer all at once. MMO Devs release their games before they are done (or their "publisher" or whatever the hell the term is), game critics write pompous/horrid/***-kissin' reviews based on screenshots and five minutes of pre-rendered movies and gamers whine or go fanboyish within the same five minutes.

I've stopped rendering judgement on any MMO until they've passed one year since release. These things has to mature before they can be reviewed properly.
