30 minutes in, loving every minute of it. This game is truly gorgeous, and I'm really digging the battle system. The story has me hooked, Lightning is awesome. More to follow.

Game guide is going to stay in its nice plastic cover until I beat it the first time, it will go on my shelf with my shrine to FF. Also my FFXI Tarutaru figurines should be here today, I can't wait to add them to the collection.

/nerdoff

Time for bed, 8 hour meeting tomorrow, wish I could play more but I took Thursday and Friday off just for that reason.

I'm jealous too! I won't be able to get the game until April because I'm broke right now. Smiley: frown

Ugh, Leona Lewis is pissing me off...

And these voice actors, outside of Sazh and Lightning are just... terrible. It's like they picked out the female voices purely based on who was willing to suck **** for it.

These voices are SO anoying.

Are you talking about English voice actors? If so, why not put it in Japanese with subs? That's what I always do Smiley: tongue.

It's in the mail, it should arrive tomorrow! Both game and guide, if Amazon hasn't lied to me that is. And if the mailman bothers to ring, instead of automatically considering me not home. (which to be fair, is the case 99% of the times he has to deliver a package, so I don't really blame him for no longer trying)

I'll put the voices on Japanese from the start then, if there's such an option that is.

I really want to get this game. I just have to buy a PS3 first. But after buying a PSP just for Dissidia, I'm a bit wary about buying a PS3 just for XIII.

That and they're still $300.

I think every game I've ever played that has come from Japan has had the option.

2 Hours in, wondering when in starts to get fun. 2 equip slots, an attack option, an some characters have an an AoE. I can tell why they went without a turned based battle system, as it would make a ridiculously easy game easier.

But it's pretty.

Early Opinion: Avatar for Video games.

So is this game going to **** me off like Final Fantasy 12 did with requiring some sort of gambits to be programmed, or is it still fairly similar to pretty much every other Final Fantasy game out there? I have a copy reserved just havne't picked it up yet.

I think there shall be gambits at some point & you no longer control your player's movement on the battlefield.

So, easier than 12.

Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, there is no such option. I am at work right now and the game is sitting there looking at me. Once I get home I will be able to confirm or maybe one of the lucky ******* playing right now could give us that info.

Edit: Just to confirm, no japanese audio. The voice acting is actually pretty good though... except for the little redhead, she's annoying as ****.

I was one of the apparently 6 people that enjoyed FF12. Knowing that, do you think I'd like FF13?

I enjoyed FF12 as well. I liked the battle system with the gambits and what-not.

The only think I didn't like about it was the grind to level your characters.

I actually liked it too, for various reasons. I didn't care for the battle system though. Gambits made it far too easy to sit back and let your characters kill **** without any input from you (except in boss fights where you actually had to pay attention, sometimes) and most of the time there was no reason to use any magic other than cures and buffs.

I did enjoy the story and the marks side quest though. The ending was a bit anti-climactic, but overall I really liked it.

Though in all fairness, I mostly enjoyed X-2 as well, and most fans hated that game with a passion. I don't know, I guess I'm just not that picky when it comes to my games, which is similar to how I am with movies as well. A movie has to be really bad for me to not like it. I typically just sit back with an open mind and enjoy the ride.

Of course, you could have easily just not used gambits or at least to such an extreme extent.

I want to pick this up tonight. I have a 360, but I hear the PS3 version is better. Should I get a PS3? There are a couple more games on it that I would like to play too. But, the thing is, I don't have a fancy TV to play it on. Just a regular (although 36") CRT that I would play it on. Would it still be worth it, or should I just go for the 360 version?

Without a HDTV you probably won't notice a difference... well, except for the swapping of disks of course.

I liked 12,

and 5 hours into this, I'm sort of disappointed.

Ok, not sort of.

I hope it actually gets fun to play at some point in time, because as it is right now it's cutscene>walk a bit, fight 2 fights > cutscene. Ridiculously easy, 0 gameplay value. I'm not smart enough to see the lauded difference in graphics from, say, 12. The environments seem empty to me and somewhat monotone.
Vanille has the world's most annoying voice actress.

Plus, no world exploration.

/disappointed.

Take the money you would spend on a PS3, FFXIII, and an HDMI cable and go buy yourself an LCD TV.

The 360 version is on 3 DVD, the PS3 is on 1 Blu-ray. So yea you'll need to swap disk.

3 DVD's versus the 1 DVD of 12 eh? That definitely inspires some hope.
