TBH I actually am very interested in whatever blizzard is coming up with for a new MMO. Because it has the best shot at ending WoW. And it will finally be something different!

I find it ironic that you said CoX gets the "population it deserves" and then complain that you're forced to play WoW because AoC/WAR/LoTRO/etc don't have enough people playing them and you're forced to play alone. I never have any trouble getting teams in CoX and am only soloing when I choose to solo (and even then chat in group channels for some social interaction). That's for a game that "deserves" its population of around 100k subscribers.

That's not to crow about how awesome CoX is, but I wonder if your games need some major server consolidation or if you're just not very good at finding people to play with.

For what it's worth, I played WoW for a few months, got bored with it (felt like watered down Everquest) and never looked back.

First, I didnt complain that im forced to play WoW nor was I ever forced to play WoW, so not sure what you are talking about. Second, I never claimed that I didnt have people to play with because of lack of server population in LotRO (Or even CoH for that matter). LotRO had plenty of people on that server. I didn't click with anyone in the kin, and my RL friend that joined me to play stopped after a few weeks to go back to.... mhmm

WAR on the other hand was definitely a major server population issue. WotLK came through and wiped out an ungodly amount of their player base, servers shrunk and between that time and the time they started merges i think a lot more people were turned off by it, because the game is rubbish without a full server. I stuck with it through a server merge, got on a full pop server and the game was a lot better. Not without flaws, but it was still a young MMO at the time. Our guild was obviously toast. It fizzled into 3 total people, guild merged, didnt click, and game over.

CoH is worthy of being a financial success, which it is. It's definitely not worthy of being a multi-million subscriber game. I gave that game a fair shot and played it long after my interest waned. It was a game I quit because I just didn't like it.

My point with the whole "population it deserves" comment is a measure of success. I think LotRO and WAR are both great games. I think the PvE in LotRO is better than WoW. I think the PvP in WAR is better than WoW. I think they deserve a greater share of the market than what they get.

Listen, it's just my own personal, selfish reason for being bitter about WoW anyway. I got amped up about several other MMOs to play with my friends from both WoW and RL. They all ended up ditching the game for WoW leaving me hanging. I'm tired of everyone I know that shares my interests talking about WoW. I don't want to play that game, and I certainly don't want to discuss the latest patch.

I'll drink to that. When I started playing WoW I was all for grouping with anybody. After 4 years of that game grouping with randoms sounds about as fun as pulling teeth. lol

Did you hear that in Cataclysm, Hunters will use focus instead of mana?

1) Are you being serious?

2) If so, wtf is focus? Are they turning them into rouges rogues now?

I can't stand playing WoW for more than 2 months straight. Every time I start playing I max my character in no time at all and am left with nothing to do until the next expansion....

I have Station Access, so I can play all the SOE games. I occasionally pop onto Vanguard. It's really not a bad game, just so quiet...

I just started EVE up again and it looks like they've made some changes since the last time I played. Its much more beginner friendly. You have your regular tutorial that goes over the basic flight controls, then you have easily accessible specific tutorials for Military, Industry, Exploration, Advanced Military and Business. The tuts give you a decent amount of skill books, ~4mil isk and roughly 10 ships. You get to learn the basics of each major aspect in the game. Ive played the game before and still learned a lot from the non-combat tutorials.

Its a nice introduction with some actual direction, before being set loose on the universe to go where you please; which usually intimidated the hell out of people.

It's nice having a decent, purpose built ship before heading out into the universe too.

1) Yes.

2) Focus works sort of like energy and runic power (if you've played Death Knight) combined. Focus regenerates on its own, but can also be regenerated faster by using certain abilities (Steady Shot, for instance) while others consume it.

Supposedly they're trying to move the gameplay away from mindless button-mashing. They're also changing the way dungeons work as the days of "pull everything and AOE it down" are supposedly over with the launch of Cataclysm (mixing the current situation with old TBC heroics where CC was vital).

Pretty drastic changes, but interesting nonetheless.

Source to prove I'm not yanking your chain about the Hunter changes.

KT, I feel like hurting you.

Your screenshots made me open up my LOTRO subscription again. I couldn't find my installation DVD, so I downloaded the client off the net. Ten freakin' gigs! And guess what, corruption error on client_mesh.dat forcing me to re-download it all.

20 gigs at 200 kbps.

Turbine, join the 21st century and cover your game with a repair tool that finds, deletes and re-downloads the corrupted files. Instead of 'installation files are corrupt, please download it all again'.

Edit: Got the game up and running. I'm not sure what I've done wrong, but I'm not seeing the purrty graphics of those screenshots anywhere. I'm running everything at Ultra High settings with DirectX 10 enabled and it still looks like something from a lot of years ago. Definitely not better than World of Warcraft graphics. I don't even leave tracks in the snow and character movement seems stiff overall (going from running to stop is more realistic in that it takes some time, but it's annoying as hell).

Maybe I need to buy the Mines of Moria and Siege of Mirkwood expansion to get shiny graphics?

You looky.

(Spiffy Lotro video.)

*edit what resolution are you runnign at Maz? That can make a huge difference. Also the landscapes get better and bbetter outside the noob zones and you won't be wearing any of the really nice armor at that point either. ( Though the shire is aweful purty especially when a rainbow comes out)

Alot of the high end wearing armor people home point in Moria now in 21'st hall but you can still see some of them running around Bree.

#72REDACTED, Posted: May 12 2010 at 4:35 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I play FF XI and you should come for a visit sometime, it is very fun in our land. Have you ever been to the world of Vana'diel? It is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. You will be blown away by our world. Come child, your time has come.

Unlike Wow, you will not be fighting pigs for many levels. No sir. In Vana'diel there are plenty of different mobs to fight. Warning. Please be careful of the sea horror while traveling on the air ship. If you chose to fish, it may come after you and kill you in one, or 2 hits. We have some very evil monsters in our land.

Did you actually play WoW? You don't fight pigs for many levels... in fact, I can't even think where you actually fight pigs. In FFXI, you find the exact same mobs in almost every zone. Crabs, Pugils, Goblins, and Mandragora alone will take you to about half max level.

And don't forget the other half you'll fight the same damn birds over and over and over!

Double post but meh, just saw this...

Mazra make sure your using the highrez client! In your install folder there should be a file called client_highres.dat
its rather large in size.. I think its pushing close to 4g now, and your total install with it is usually 13.5 gig give or take. Thats the file that gives you the "purrty" graphics. Something tells me you only have the "normal" version installed since you said it was only 10gig you downloaded (twice...)

Try LoTRO. The game looks great, you can customize your character really well. The classes are fun to play and all have some depth to them, even as DPS classes.

I got bored at the level cap of 65 though, and then my account ended up getting hacked because I logged on a computer at my college. Turbine is running on the same policies that SE used to have, that if you're not the current credit card holder, you don't own the account. Either way, it's a good game.
