TBH I actually am very interested in whatever blizzard is coming up with for a new MMO. Because it has the best shot at ending WoW. And it will finally be something different!
I find it ironic that you said CoX gets the "population it deserves" and then complain that you're forced to play WoW because AoC/WAR/LoTRO/etc don't have enough people playing them and you're forced to play alone. I never have any trouble getting teams in CoX and am only soloing when I choose to solo (and even then chat in group channels for some social interaction). That's for a game that "deserves" its population of around 100k subscribers.
That's not to crow about how awesome CoX is, but I wonder if your games need some major server consolidation or if you're just not very good at finding people to play with.
For what it's worth, I played WoW for a few months, got bored with it (felt like watered down Everquest) and never looked back.
First, I didnt complain that im forced to play WoW nor was I ever forced to play WoW, so not sure what you are talking about. Second, I never claimed that I didnt have people to play with because of lack of server population in LotRO (Or even CoH for that matter). LotRO had plenty of people on that server. I didn't click with anyone in the kin, and my RL friend that joined me to play stopped after a few weeks to go back to.... mhmm
WAR on the other hand was definitely a major server population issue. WotLK came through and wiped out an ungodly amount of their player base, servers shrunk and between that time and the time they started merges i think a lot more people were turned off by it, because the game is rubbish without a full server. I stuck with it through a server merge, got on a full pop server and the game was a lot better. Not without flaws, but it was still a young MMO at the time. Our guild was obviously toast. It fizzled into 3 total people, guild merged, didnt click, and game over.
CoH is worthy of being a financial success, which it is. It's definitely not worthy of being a multi-million subscriber game. I gave that game a fair shot and played it long after my interest waned. It was a game I quit because I just didn't like it.
My point with the whole "population it deserves" comment is a measure of success. I think LotRO and WAR are both great games. I think the PvE in LotRO is better than WoW. I think the PvP in WAR is better than WoW. I think they deserve a greater share of the market than what they get.
Listen, it's just my own personal, selfish reason for being bitter about WoW anyway. I got amped up about several other MMOs to play with my friends from both WoW and RL. They all ended up ditching the game for WoW leaving me hanging. I'm tired of everyone I know that shares my interests talking about WoW. I don't want to play that game, and I certainly don't want to discuss the latest patch.

I'll drink to that. When I started playing WoW I was all for grouping with anybody. After 4 years of that game grouping with randoms sounds about as fun as pulling teeth. lol
