It's pretty much DoTA from Warcraft...just with some more stuff and better. It's still a bit clunky in the game menu and such, but the game play is awesome. I found out about it from that one guys' sig in the WoW general... I can remember his toon but not his name. (Trubbles is the toon...) Jordster, that's it.

Me and my brother play it and love it. I'm really liking the Sion character, he's a complete badass. Add me, username Cestin.

I've said it so much already... but HoN is vastly superior in gameplay, graphics, and community.

The only thing LoL has going for it is it's still free.

I've thought about giving it a chance. I'm a long time DotA player and I chose HoN as my initial preferred successor, but I might as well give it a shot.

I'm pretty sure Sorin's endorsement is reason enough to avoid it like the plague.

I will give you that I played it back in its beta and it's probably improved since then, but it just didn't impress me like HoN has.

I tried playing it once, because my entire WoW guild plays it, but while downloading it gave me an error that a downloading file was already in use and crashed itself.

Gave up right there.

Sorin's link, like everything else he posts, was actually an endorsement of Atlantica Online. I doubt if he's ever heard of this game. I also doubt if he actually exists and isn't some really bad context-aware bot.

Yea, Sorin really gets on my nerves. Supposedly it's a unique IP address (confirmed by 2 separate admins iirc), but I wouldn't be surprised if it's a bot of some sort.

Hmmm.... HoN does look better. I wasn't aware of it's existence before now, reading the replies. o.o Definitely worth looking into when I have cash to spare, which isn't soon.

You might like it Allegory, HoN might be better, but there is a sense of silly uniqueness that LoL has to it. I think so anyway.

It's very easy to compare the two if you've already had experience with LoL. HoN is DotA pretty much exactly. It's a blatantly shameless clone. Mostly the same heroes. Mostly the same items. The same map, though there are others. If you like DotA more than LoL, then you will like HoN more than LoL. If you like LoL more than DotA, then you will probably like LoL more than HoN.

The reason HoN is worth buying when you've already got free access to DotA available is that it fixes many of the core support problems of DotA while leaving the mechanics in tact. Because HoN tracks leaver status, no one leaves public HoN games like they leave public DotA games. Because HoN is hosted on separate serves, no one's lag makes your game lag and no one can possibly cheat with map hacking. It keeps track of your stacks and allows you to reconnect if you happen to disconnect during a game. You can also search for games by specific options (such as all random, standard draft, all pick, easy mode, duplicate heroes, etc.).

Because not every hero from DotA was converted to HoN and because a few have minor changes, HoN tends to have a lot less autoattack heroes overall. For example Phantom Assassin is not in HoN.

I'll do some reading up on LoL, download it, and maybe we can play some time.

I play LoL just because I don't want to pay for HoN. I still play DOTA more than LoL though, so once I get some cash to spare I'll probably pick up HoN, as I do really like DOTA.

Maybe today has just been a bad day or maybe there is something wrong on my end, but the game has been down far more often than it has been up for me.

Yes, today and yesterday have been bad days. Some emergency fixes and whatnot. LoL does have a bit of a reputation for bad servers, it's up often enough though.

I guess that has something to do with it being free?

Speaking of which, how do they get their revenue? Are there ads, or is there purchasable content?

Purchasable content. It's fairly reasonable. Most of what you can buy can be obtained normally in the game, but it becomes faster to purchase it.

Yes, much quicker to purchase it. My brother got 10$ worth of points just so he could own Jax. I'm almost up to 1350 points through playing so I can own Sion.

It's slow because the points you use to buy characters are the same ones you use to buy the minor upgrades called glyphs. So once every level or so you need to spend about 30 for a glyph.

I've been playing quite a bit of LoL recently, and I'm enjoying it a fair bit.

I like the increased paced via higher hp and mana regeneration and lower cooldown and durations. I like how champions have more attributes to differentiate them (whereas DotA/HoN heroes have 4 moves, LoL champions have 4 moves, one which is usually a duel passive and active, and an inherent champion characteristic).

I am finding the LoL community to be somewhat noobish. I've easily been averaging about a 2.0 K/D ratio in most games, and even in losing games I come out with a positive score, high level, and fair amount of towers destroyed and creeps killed. Allies seem often unwilling to coordinate on ganks or pushes much, and their understanding of team roles isn't very good. I've thus far been shying away from support heroes because I fear I will have no one to support.

One aspect I have mixed feelings about is tower damage. Towers really hurt, and while I see some benefit in that it tends to make early game ganking almost impossible. Tower diving is jsut infeasible and so anyone can tower hug for almost guaranteed safety. Ganks can pretty much only occur on people who are neutralling or pushing out fairly far.
