Don't worry, I'm going to be very similar to my WoW main :P.

And Al, I was not at all commenting on already planned group members :P.

Popped on the open beta to keep me occupied this weekend. Anything I should know that hasn't been mentioned in the thread yet?

I've been looking over the skill tree calculator and I'm not sure what I should pick. I'd like to DD with the ability to heal myself. For that matter, how is healing handled? Do I have to have a pocket healer, or can I rest, are there easy to get healing items?

I'm not sure what games you are familiar with Turin, but it's similar to WoW/Lotro/War and many others in regard to healing. There are in combat potions you can use which aren't terribly expensive (compared to FFXI), but still not something I'd recommend you spam to keep yourself up. There are out of combat healing items, which are cheap and you are intended to use regularly for restoring hp and mana. There are also class and abilities that heal you in combat.

You'd probably want to check out Rogue with one of your souls being Bard. You'll do good DPS if you main one of the Rogue DPS souls and bard will let you heal yourself. If you want to play a Mage, Chloromancer can do very good healing while DPSing. Cleric also offers some DPS options with of course an excellent healing selection.

OK, download complete. I played for a couple hours, it's amusing enough, though I wish there was a way to claim mobs. I've had more than one person run over to the one I'm fighting and start whacking away at it. Right now I'm just playing around with different builds to see what I like. The game does have a kind of a WoW feel but without the awful graphics. Speaking of graphics, I cranked the settings to max just to see if my system could handle it, and so far not even a bit of slowdown. Though I haven't been in any massive battles yet, so I don't know what what a lot of stuff going on around me will do to my frame rate. Overall, it's funnish, though I don't know if I would pay to play it.

If you got the first hit, it's yours.

Graphic look ugly compare to FFXIV. Heck even age of conan or warhammer itself.

Combat is horribly SLOW, but monster die fast. Still SLOW.

Game is a WOW clone. Yes, just a wow clone. Angel@ the graveyard? Quest ? Soul tree?

I can't stand it, played a few level and i told myself. Amazing how people like a wow clone, and claim this to be better.

I rather play FFXI, at least i can summon fenrir that look more awesome then most of the pet in there.

Are you saying you like FFXIV? Because then I already know your taste in games is horribly skewed.

And I love how you say WoW clone as if it's a bad thing.

Also, Turin, other people can still hit your mobs... but it still belongs to you as long as you hit it first. You'll know a mob belongs to you because its health bar will be red (if someone else has claim to it, the health bar will be grey).

You know what? That's why there's more than one video game. Ya know, in case someone doesn't like one, they can play a different one.

The skill tree seems a bit... complicated? Maybe it's because I am just looking at the calculator thing here on Zam, and not in the actual game.

I'm assuming that you cannot reset your skill/ability choices?

You can, for a fee, just like WoW. You don't make ability choices per se (assuming you mean the bottom section of the tree) - those are unlocked automatically once you have the requisite number of points in that soul.

Ya, I meant the upgrades, point spent, etc.

Half an hour or so and my update will be complete and I can try it out myself.

After playing a bit more I've reached level 11 and I'm just not feeling the urge to play anymore. The basic point, click, stuff happens model has been around since the original Diablo, it's getting old. I'd really like to see a better control scheme.

Quests for the most part are the same old boring, go kill/find/loot X number of whatevers. A couple of them had me fighting beefed up named versions of some of the local mobs, which were the most fun. Though, those mobs spawn randomly (thankfully quickly) within certain areas, so it tends to create competition.

As to gear, I don't feel any real sense of accomplishment in getting new stuff, since it very quickly gets replaced. I found a significantly better shield than the one I was using on some flaming wolf thing, and not fifteen minutes later got an even better one from an easy quest. This may change at end game, but at least during the low levels, gear is pretty much a constant flow of upgrades.

You can't buy anything worthwhile from NPCs unless you grind out rep, which is not my idea of a good time, so I had something like 90 gold and nothing to spend it on. I thought about picking up a mount, but never did manage to find the place to do so. I saw a bunch of people riding around on turtles, which to me seemed a bit odd.

As far as I can tell the only thing this game has going for it are the Rifts, which are basically (to use a FFXI comparison) just Campaign battles that can happen anywhere instead of just in certain spots. They are amusing enough, especially if you ignore them long enough for the enemies to take over a couple spots, then it turns into a massive clustf*ck of a fight. Usually though people show up and annihilate the mobs before that can happen.

It's a fairly typical MMORPG Turin. My very first comment in this thread was about how unoriginal the game is. As a typical MMORPG, it's about as solid as they come though, and I've yet to see any serious flaws.

Oh, bite me. In the several hours it took to get to level 11, I learned a hell of a lot more about the game than someone that's never played it. Contrary to popular belief you don't need to spend months with a game to give it a fair review. Core mechanics are core mechanics at level 1 or 50.

Rifts don't happen until you're outside of the tutorial zone, so that's at least level 5 or 6 Smiley: grin

Well, Technically there is a Rift event at the end of the Tutorial zone, before you go back.
