Since the rest of you have failed me, I went out and picked it up. I haven't touched the multiplayer yet, but the single player isn't too bad. Once you get over the idea of rushing in and blowing the hell out of anything that moves (and most likely getting slaughtered in the process), the combat gets a bit more tactical.
Ducking in behind cover, knowing when to activate your shield versus stealth, when to rush, when to sit back and snipe. So far it's pretty fun, though enemy AI isn't anything particularly spectacular. They tend to just stand around looking stupid when you snipe the guy next to them. Though, they can be dangerous in groups. My biggest complaint is that unless you head shot a guy, they suck up bullets like a sponge. Sometimes taking ten to twelve shots from a standard rifle to go down. I've found it's a good idea to rip one of the mounted machine guns off of the top of a truck to take them down in large numbers, just because it takes so many damn shots to get the job done.
Graphically, it's a very well done game, it definitely has the feel of actually fighting your way through the streets of New York. The "story" is barely interesting drivel about aliens and an evil corporation or paramilitary group, I'm not sure which, that at least gives you reason to be fighting all this stuff. Voice acting runs from acceptable to annoyingly bad.
Once I've tried out the multiplayer I'll stop in again with my thoughts.
