Until April 30th, BioWare is giving away the PC version of ME2 to anyone with a Black Emporium key (and there is some kind of key retrieval for if you lost it). Log into the BioWare site and enter your online pass included in your DA2 box. That will give you a redeem code for ME2 that you can use in their Download Manager (available of their site).

Wow, big DL. 11.6 Gigs.

So, I'm curious. I've never been into the whole Sci-Fi RPG thing, preferng the classic fantasy settings instead. How does ME work? Is it kinda like DA but in space, or what?

Having never played Dragon Age I cannot compare, however I will say that ME and ME2 have been 2 of my favorite recent games that have been released. Allegory will tell you that he hates it, so different opinions I guess.

It is, basically, Dragon Age with guns. But it came first, so Dragon Age learned a few bits from it. Mass Effect 1, especially, is a little rough around the edges (Mako planet exploration #312, go)

It's the same principle, except instead of you against the world, it's you against the universe. It's all on a much bigger scale than Dragon Age.

And it's bloody BRILLIANT.

I would however advise you to play Mass Effect 1 first (obviously download 2 while it's free), because much like Dragon Age, your actions carry over into ME2. However, they seem to have more importance in Mass Effect than Dragon Age... at the moment, anyway.

It's pretty much my favourite game of the last 10 years. If you like KOTOR, DA, or even FPS games, you should play Mass Effect.

If only I could play it on my pc /sigh. (I don't have hardware T&L support on my laptop).

The PS3 demo was fun, though. I'll probably pick it up eventually, once the price drops.

I'd have to describe it as an RPG Shooter, if anything. And I have to agree with:

Because it is, IMO.

And that's not even seeing how exactly they're going to affect the third game(which comes out later this year).

I dread to think how many twists and turns the third game's going to have... it's so, so ambitious of Bioware to do something on this scale.

(My honest opinion is that we won't see ME3 until 2012. It sounds like they're taking the time to get it right first.)

Personally, I hate shooter/fps games. But ME doesn't fall into that category for me somehow. It's fast, it's exciting, you (can) have crazy magic or electronic powers, and the story is superb.

I want me a Morinth.

ME3 is going to be released for the PS3, 360 and PC simultaneously. As such, I doubt ME's decisions are going to have much of an effect, because PS3 users don't have access to a save file--they only got to choose from a few options at the start of the game, which had a prologue of sorts (or something like this).

I'm guessing that whatever the PS3 users chose will affect ME3, and everything else is purely ME2.

Though I'm actually curious about the same thing for DA3. We have a setup so that your actions from 1 and 2 should both be a big impact on 3--it'll be interesting to see what they do with that.

I don't think that there's been an official announcement, but the fanbase on the net is treating it as a foregone conclusion.

Not wishing to spoil it for anyone who hasn't played, but the ending of DA2 where both the Hero and Champion have gone missing, and Leliana gets involved (if you didn't kill her in DA1) implies that there's going to be a 3rd... and there's some major grief happening in the process. Which is making me wonder... what happens if you kill Leliana in the first game? She's a pretty major part of the plot at the end... I might have to bump her off in my new playthrough of DA1...

Also, I completed Awakening last night. What a disappointing ending THAT was.

Yeah, the ending of DA2 makes me seriously doubt there won't be a DA3.

IIRC, though, there were at least many, many rumors early after DA:O that it was planned to be a trilogy, but that the DA universe was going to be the setting for many games outside of the Dragon Age era.

BioWare has also mentioned that they are willing to consider a DA MMO, but only after they've told the stories they want to tell.

It doesn't specify a platform restriction, so I assume it would be any one, yes. The ME2 download may be PC only, though. Not sure.

I agree with the first statement. I mean there's waaaay to much unresolved things going on for it to end at 2. Morrigan(The which hunt part), Flemeth, the achitect, etc etc. I truly don't think the game will end until we make it to the black city. And that's a long ways off. And there's still plenty of countries yet to be visited.

I can't wait until the Black City bit.

Actually, I was SUPER surprised they barely mentioned it at all in DA2. A few references from the darkspawn origin tales, and a few more when talking about Tevinter and the blights, but that was all. Hell, I don't think you could even see it when in the fade...

Well the game focus was on mages and qunari not the darkspawn. Although relevant to mages not quite as important to the story DA2 was trying to portrait while the story behind the black city is the origin of the darkspawn so yeah there gonna mention it a whole bunch in origins. And no you can't. Since the only visit to the fade was a dream version of the templar area of the circle.(Which had no opening into the beyond to see it)

True, but I'm sure they'll end up adding more lore about the city in time--it can't all be about the Darkspawn. I'm just surprised they didn't even really try in DA2.

Actually, Justice would have been great there. AFAIK, we have yet to see anything to suggest that demons/spirits can reproduce, so there's a good chance they've all been around since the Maker created them (or, perhaps, they form from souls that enter the fade or something, or maybe as those emotions become compressed, etc.) So they could have made justice make some allusion to the Golden/Black city. It would have been interesting, for instance, if he had alluded to the possibility that it was not corrupted by Mages at all.

Because the chantry's version isn't fully solid. Quick chronology via chantry:

1. Maker creates the world and lives in the golden city.
2. Maker abandons the world, because they worship the old gods.
3. Mages find their way into city and corrupt it, and are cast back to the world as darkspawn.
4. The first blight occurs and ravages Tevinter.
5. After/during it, the Maker hears Andraste's song and, at her behest, looks back upon the world.
6. Andraste leads a march against Tevinter and is able to defeat the war-ravaged Imperium.
7. Andraste is burned, and the maker turns away from the world.

That's all well and good, but it is suggested that the maker's return would purify the black city. That possibly creates a big hole in the center of the story, as the city HAD to have been corrupted before he found Andraste. But he didn't find her until after the Blight started. So, assuming that he wasn't residing elsewhere, either Mages are being blamed for something they didn't do or Andraste wasn't the bride of the maker.

Though we have seen that even her ashes are holy, and so it seems fair to assume that she was his chosen (and also possibly a powerful Mage, which would explain how he so easily heard her song).

Thus, either the Maker was in the Black city, or the Mages are innocent. That's assuming he wasn't residing elsewhere, of course. I'm imagining that, since he's said to have turned away from the world and left the city, that he is no longer in the fade (and that he must be there, or in the waking world, to monitor it).

It would be great if Andraste was a Mage--it would really add fuel to the chantry/mage war--both sides would feel like they are the justified ones for the same reasons. :P

Or, the Maker is infact corrupt himself, killed Andraste in his rage, and the Grand Cleric in Orlais is aware of this, and the Church is rotten to the core.

That's how I think it'll play out, anyway.

Hrmmm... I don't like his beard... NUG FERTILIZER FARMER FOR HIM!

Edit: not that, that is specificly mentioned in any lore but they could pull that out of their *** without butchering the history to bad.
