A few weeks ago I was browsing my favorite game review site and saw a news blurb about Microsoft testing a new disc format for the 360. They needed beta testers and were willing to drop a free copy of Halo: Reach to get them. Not being a huge Halo fan, but not wanting to miss out on a free game, I signed up. I didn't hear back, so I figured I wasn't chosen. Until today when I got a shiny new game in the mail with some basic instructions on how to go about testing the new format. The amusing thing is that if I were to use the disc in any 360 but mine (the one I registered) I'll kill their access to Live.

If any of you want to get in on this, it's apparently too late.

The disc itself just looks and feels like a DVD. It's probably got lots of new security bits and such, but it's still just a DVD.

Toss it into your computer and see what kind of storage capacity it has.

I did, it came out at to 56 some megabyte, which is clearly not right. If there is a way to make my computer read the disc correctly, I'm too tired to go looking for it. Maybe tomorrow.

Wait so now there is a key on the disk that locks it to your console? So it can't be used online other consoles?

This is getting out of hand, these money grabbing companies are going to crash the video game market, between stuff like having to pay full price no matter what, on disc DLC, Overpriced DLC, and shovelware. Kinda getting sickening.

It's a test disk, not a retail game. Microsoft is trying a new coding format to increase security while increasing the amount of space used on a disk. This is supposed to help stop the need for multi-disk spanning games for the 360.

The fact that you can destroy live access for anyone else that uses the disc is what I find really worrisome about this whole thing...
