So, saying I find some time this weekend to give it a try, where, what, who should I be looking for?

My Steam ID is "iofiel". I have no idea what you actually do with that information or how it helps you find me in TF2 but others seem to pull it off. Maybe someone else can edumicate us.

I have the wife's family rolling in this weekend so I'm not sure how robust my playtime will be but don't let that stop you.

Once you have downloaded, installed, and created a steam account you can access teh friends menu by either double clicking the icon in the tray or in the main window by going to the friends tab. From there pick the "add a friend" option and input the user's steam id to add them to your friends list. Note that people can set their displayed name to be different from their steam id, for example my steam ID is Hroshin but my display name is Allegory.

Once someone is on your friends list you will be able to see when they are online/offline and whether they're in a game or not. Their name will appear in green and at the top of your friends list if they are in a game. If you wish to join the game their playing simply right click their name on the friends list and select the "join game option." This will automatically launch the game and join their server. You can also use this same menu to message them. Sometimes players will be in a game but not currently on a server, so that is why steam will show them as in game but not allow you to join their game.

Finally, shift+tab brings up the steam menu while you're playing a steam game. So if you're already playing TF2 and want to check to see if anyone is online or to join a friend's game just press shift+tab and follow the above steps.

I've had a Steam ID for awhile, ever since Portal was free. Name same as here.

Haha... Allegory, at first I took this screen shot because I was amused that we were both on top.

Then I saw the disparity between your score and the next highest guy on your team Smiley: laugh

Go go Pyro!

My steam name is hyolith I believe. Though TF2 does not seem to like this crappy laptop I'm using right now. It loads slow as hell and lags just as bad. I may have to deal with playing on a lower resolution.
