more than average from 1-57

its been kind of annoying me because i die
70% of the time when i get an add on me

im thinking of respeccing resto because its just been a bit annoying

I think the lack of CC is one of the major problems our class faces when grinding PvE. What kind of gear do you have at the moment? The first 10 or so quests in the OL give you access to some decent caster and enhancement mail greens. I'd say enhance is the better spec for levelling, but it still sucks for adds. Try to keep your mana up, get as much AP gear as you can, go DW and use shamanistic rage a lot. Use the lower rank shocks to achieve the same effects, like rank 1 earthshock to interrupt a spell to conserve mana.

some of my gear is up to date, but i DO have my SM shoulders and leggings still on, so that might be one of the problems

but i do everything else that you said, i got all 3 rank 1 shocks on a hotkey.

but dying that much got really annoying, but i guess ill just stick with it til i get better gear

Yes your survivabilty will go up with a resto spec, but you will not be doing a significant amount of damage.

You have to do the balancing act just like every other shaman. I leveled from 58-59 as a pure resto spec, and did not die once throughout the whole level soloing all content. IT TOOK ME FOREVER to get through one level. Keep in mind.

Levels 59-61, I have the same spec, and i grouped through 75% of it. Died alot more, but i blame the fact that we were pulling too much... Plus much harder quests.

The true question is, would you perfer to LIVE forever and take forever to kill something, or take something out fast and die in the process...

Personally I chose to live forever approach, and I have been leveling from 58-61 for almost 3 weeks now of casual play. Ick.

I died alot in OL too when I first got there. At best I had some current greens from the old world, mixed in with some blues (enh spec at the time too). Since the mobs are 58-62ish it wasn't exactly easy to take stuff down fast, especially since everything was pretty clustered togather. Now, I wasn't playing that long at the time, so I never had a chance to get ANYTHING epic from the old world (in many ways post TBC I was very happy I never sunk that much time into getting epics, since a OL green ended up being better than it anyhow), but that being said if someone is wearing a epic 60 gear entering OL, your kinda "ahead" of the mobs and the zone for a short time, which might make thing a tad easier. I wasn't this person :P

Hellfire is a rough place @ 58+ 1 accidental run in with a Fel Reaver, and thats a easy way to earn a run from the GY. Not to mention mobs like the goo's in the pools or the "rock mantis" guys, or worms are kinda rough.

Needless to say, once you get some current outland gear, things start to even out, and of course I started dying less...tho that didn't happen as fast as I wanted it too.....

When I first arrived in OL, I had almost all blue gear--ended up switching it out within the first few hours of questing for greens that were quest rewards and random drops. Did I die alot? You bet...lol.

It will get better, but adds will always be a problem. Gear will definitely help you out or hurt you...

I cheated and did all my grinding with a mage friend of mine. Life is alot easier with crowd control and DPS.

A friend and I were talking the other night. About how every face to face melee fighting class, can wear Plate cept for Shaman. Warriors fight face to face and can wear plate. Druids can fight face to face and Shapeshift to boost armor and def. to equal mail and plate with good gear. Pallys fight face to face and from a distance as healers.

But Shaman fight face to face and must wear mail... My friend and I thought it seemed off, on Blizzard's part. Seems like Shaman should have plate. Since we also can fight face to face and from a distance like Pallys and druids.

I don't seem to be having the problems in OL that you are. I own most everything no more then a few lvls above me. I usually pull groups of 60s (2 to 3) just for fun. While playing a good grinding playlist and ripping into them. I am LvL 62 Enhancement Shaman. Currently some of my base stats are, AGI +140, Stam. +115, and Armor 3269. I have been in OL since 58. Mostly in Hellfire Penn. and outside Shattrath City.

Are you using your Stoneclaw totem? When ever I have a add or two. I just drop it, and say "Here watch the stick." While I bash the first mob. I also have gear for survivabilty and Crit. So mostly +Agi, +Stamina, and 3 peices of the PvP 60 Epics(For the awsome well rounded stats, and enhancement to shock spells.)Not to interested in the full set, seems like it would be gimp without other OL gear. Then DW with two maces, just because those two OL green maces have high DPS mininum numbers, and +Agi, and +STR. I usally white and yellow crit around 1k adding up to around 3k about every other pull with WF. My two-hander is a OL green too, and can one hit 58 Orc casters. Making the ladies go "Ohhhh, Ahhhhh!"

I would look into all gear options and enchantments to help live longer. More health, or strength. What ever your build needs. Thoe, I like a strong mix of killing and living stats. Since no one ever won a fight by dieing. A good defence is often a strong offence. Like maybe that last bit of MP, would be better spent damaging, instead of trying to delay death.

Some mobs run at a certain point. Stoneclaw, distracts unwanted attackers. Expect to be hit, so brace yourself. Earthbind and frostshock can be used to kite, for a bandage. Never stop paying close attention to your surroundings. Finally, know your limits. If your HP bar is draining far faster then theirs. The battle most likely is lost.

Good thing, you have to kill a Shaman.... Twice. ;)

I don't think you can really call a rogue a "face to face" melee class. Well, maybe combat rogues are, but they are ez enough to dispatch...Rogues have so many immobilizing and CC talents that you can't really compare them in melee to a shaman who basically only has Frostshock, Earthbind or Stoneclaw.

Well, i just hit 60, and i did get a quite a lot of good OL gear, and i die a lot less, it was probably because i was a 58 wearing some SM gear, but i still die once in a while, but it's because i need a new mainhand, since my offhand (OL quest reward) is better than my mh (axe drop from brd)
