Some looking around Wikipedia says that the only state in the US with a higher population density than the Netherlands is New Jersey (although Rhode Island is close) with the US as a whole at less than a tenth of the population density of the Netherlands.

Alaska is 1.26, but c'mon. That's because nearly all people in Alaska are near the coast, and then it's just totally empty land.
Wyoming, however, is 2.26 per kilometer squared. What's their excuse?

You really need to get down in the weeds and look at population density by county if you want a decent idea.

Looking at that you can see why we here refer to New Jersey as one long parkway. You can also see that Wyoming has an average of about 7 people per square mile, in my guesstimation. That's less than two families.
EDIT: I think 7 may actually be high.
