I have browsed about 12 pages of this forum and found two other threads pop up with the same problem I have, but their questions were not answered. Similarly, the sticky thread in this forum did not list the POL-0020 error under the list of recognized errors. Lastly, PlayOnline does not have this particular error under its FAQ/Q&A list. Consequently, I would like to make a post regarding this error once again, in order to hopefully alleviate any future problems that I or anyone else might have with it.
I am playing on the PS2 version; my ISP is Road Runner and I have a cable modem; I have a Linksys router that, in case of my PS2 and the HDD, connects with an Ethernet cable. For most of the time, I have no problems at all connecting to POL. Every now and then I do get the POL-0020 error, which states:
Version Update Communication Error
Error Code: POL-0020
The DNS Server is not responding.
Please try again later, or verify that all cables,
networking devices, and network settings are properly
connected and configured.
This error usually occurs when reaching the point “Checking PlayOnline Viewer Version,†but it also happens at “Connecting to PlayOnline…Verifying ID, password, etc.†What I normally do to alleviate this problem is to reset the router and/or modem. However, last night, after having done so over a dozen times, I still could not get it to work. Now the problem always pops up at “Checking PlayOnline Viewer Version.â€
My internet connection works just fine on the computers. I have tried other online games (such as World Soccer Winning Eleven 9, which also has an online mode) and I do not get beyond the DNAS stage of the connection process.
No, I am not a computer/networking buff, so I am at a bit of a loss here. Traditionally, resetting my router and/or modem has fixed the problem, and since it has not fixed it now, I am asking for help. The POL Q&A support is not very fast to answer questions like these, and usually the answers are somewhat unreliable, certainly when compared to asking the question in a tech-support forum. I hope there is someone here who can guide me and others with the same problem in the right direction, if not have a fool-proof solution right away. Thank you very much in advance!
