WoW Duel Monitor help

Hi all!

Just a few (hopefully quick) questions about setting up duel monitors to play wow. Now first off, I would like to know if this would be functional. I'm thinking one monitor for the main screen, the other for all raid/party/chat/MT info/etc. Is this even possible? I believe i've seen a ss of it, but that was a long time ago. If this is possible (and if someone does have such a set up, SS please?)....

From what I understand, in order to even set up two monitors, I probably need a new graphics card. Now I'm not very tech savy... I have a stock

ATI RadeonÂ® Xpress 200 (PCI-ExpressÂ® )
Up to 128MB DDR shared video memory
PCI-ExpressÂ® (PCI-E x16) slot available for upgrade

From what I've read (and just know by looking at the thing) i'll probably need to buy a new one right? that has duel video outputs?

In a nutshell, will this setup work? (the one monitor for gameplay, other for info)

Should I buy a new rocking card, or just another cheap one that supports another monitor?

Is it worth it? (I also do minor video editing, so it has other applications)

It is possible, but you can run into some problems (some programs being picky about where/how they display). If you plan to play wow on a nice screen, and have simple things like a browser, teamspeak/vent, and etc in the other monitor, you should not need much equipment.

A cheap PCIe card or outlet from your motherboard should work, and any cheap/free monitor you can plug into it. You can spend a lot more, get a nice matching plasma, and duel video cards so you can run SLI. But, thats just if you got $ to burn. Windows XP is usually setup to deal with duel monitors, but like I said, some programs will be a pain. Go to display properties, and you might have a drop-down box that offers a multiple monitor option, and you can change the resolution and setting there.

if your card has dual output, it shouldn't be an issue - just ensure you have your game video settings the same as your desktop settings (refresh rate, size etc).

I think you meant you wanted wow split over 2 screens though.. I think this is possible using a single output and a splitter and putting the game on widescreen settings.

But your character would be 'cut in half' by the join between the 2 monitors afaik

Yeah, it does work, remember you are essentially cutting your graphics horsepower output by half, so you want a really high end card. Even with that, you will run into someoddness occasionally with gameing.

ATI has a notoriously pain in the *** dual monitor setup. it's much much much easier on an Nvidia card.
