Hi.

I'll probably go to the states next week, and since laptops are cheaper there, I'm thinking on buying a new one (I'll miss the ñ, though).

Of course, I want my laptop to be able to run FFXI, so, if someone can recommend me a model, I would appreciate it very much (my budget is of around 2000).

And BTW, is it true that FFXI roasts the video card? I've been playing FFXI for 2 years in a 2003 laptop, and it sure doesn't run as good as it used to.

(Oh, and are there still new computers that have windows XP?).

Thanks in advance.

Hi there!
I hope you enjoy the States when you get here ^,^

Anyway, i have been playing FFXI on my laptop for quite some time now and everything seems to be doing great. I'm using the Gateway model MX6450. I think it was somewhere around $1700, im not positive because i bought brand new off of my aunt for cheaper than what it was originally worth. (you said your budget was around 2000, right?)

Best of luck to you and finding yourself a laptop.

Not at all, the only thing which can "roast" a video card would be excessive heat wither that be from a Games or 3D graphics programs.

Concerning which model of laptop you want depends on what brand you want among other things. The couple of things you want at the very least is a nice Dual Core processor and at least a 256MB Video card to run FFXI decently. Along with those about 1~2 Gb of memory should be more then enough for FFXI play.

Outside of that anything will really do, sure you can get into more detail specs however for what you want it's not required to be honest.

Something decent in my mind would be something along the lines of;

1.8~2.0+ Dual core processor
2Gb Memory
256Mb Video card
7200RPM Hard Drive

Brand all depends on what you like and trust, sure the arguments can be made that Dell, HP, Alienware or whatever is better then something else but I find a lot of that to be personal choice. I have a friend who swears by Alienware and another who will never buy one again because he has had three laptops crap out on him.
