Quad core questionsFollow

Looking to buy a new computer and am curious if anyone would comment on whether a quad core 6800 is worth the price difference vs the 6600 or 6700.

Also, does it make much of a speed difference (in accessing time) to have a Tb hard drive vs 2 500 Gb hard drives?

Finally, although I built my last computer myself I'm considering purchasing this one pre-made and currently I'm looking at the Dell XPS. What do you guys think about Dell's?

Thanks!

No one so far aside from the major system builders (alienware, etc) has been able to get ahold of one yet. It should scream when they do. QUad core, with hyperthreading.

Hard drive speed as far as size goes, there wouldn't be much difference unless you were running the 2 500gb drives in raid 0, but if one drive failed at that point your entire data set is gone.

If you want faster access, my advice would be to get 2 raptor 150 10,000 rpm drives set themup as raid 0, then add a 7200 rpm 500gb data drive

the dell xps's are decent. they tend to be under power supplied. I don't particularily like their cases myself, and they will limit upgradeability oer an alienware. but they do run well.

Thanks, Kao, I appreciate the info. Now I guess I have to decide if I want to wait for the 6800. :(

I would sway away from buying a machine like that from a large manufacture... They tend to be more trouble then you would have building it for yourself. Also for the price you can pick and choose what YOU want. Not what they offer. I'm not even gonna get started on the problems Gateway has been having with there new Quad cores.... And I'm sure all the others are having the same problem... Gateways advantage is ME!!!

Also... I would like to add. That at this point if you got that much money to blow wait a few months and check out the Intel V8 boxes :P They will pry cost the same by the time they roll them out
