I would like to play FFXI on the PC, but I want to make sure it would be capable of running smoothly before I purchase anything. I'm going to put how much it would cost as well.

Price = $2,801

Intel® Core™ 2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.4GHz,1066FSB)
Genuine Windows® XP Home Edition with re-installation CD
2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 2 DIMMs
500GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cacheâ„¢
Dual Drives: 48x Combo + 16x DVD+/-RW w/ dbl layer write capable
20 inch UltraSharpâ„¢ 2007WFP Widescreen Digital Flat Panel
256MB nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS
Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio
Dell USB Enhanced Multimedia Keyboard
Dell Premium Optical USB Mouse
56K PCI Data Fax Modem
IEEE 1394 Adapter

I copied the specs straight from the site, I didn't want to leave anything out.
Helpful replies would be much appreciated.

Yes however, 8 Series nVidia cards have been running Final Fantasy XI at very low frame rates ( 1-15 ). You would be better off if this is going to be used for primarily Final Fantasy XI with a 6 or 7 series card.

Everything else is more then enough for this 4-5 year old game, and then some.

If you not strapped to a 8 series card I would recommend like a nVidia 7950 GTX, very good cards and when ran in SLI mode can keep up with most 8800 cards. Also SLI don't work with Final Fantasy either in case that was the next question.

Well, the only options for Video Cards that come with the package would be:

128MB nVidia GeForce 8300 GS
256MB nVidia GeForce 8600GT-DDR3
256MB nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS
768MB nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX

Otherwise, I have to buy it from somewhere else. I would not have any idea how to install a video card, or take the computer apart without breaking it...

I don't think there's anything you can't run with this card. Put that card in the system you listed and your only lag will be from the ISP - you'll smoke the servers.

Not true in Final Fantasy XI, There a huge support issues with the 8 series cards and more namely the 8800 cards. Even using 3rd party drivers the best frame rates I have seen reported are 20fps.

There is an ongoing complaint and debate going on about this;
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=21265&st=260

First you will most likely need the Guru3D drivers as the 8 series card drivers are for better words junk. This will get you into FFXI with no white buttons and such. Now if you do decide to use the 8800 have fun, a lot of users are reporting 1-5 frame rates in towns or area's with more then 5 people.

nVidia has sat on their hands with this issue and so has Square Enix for some time now and a actual fix for the 8 series cards looks grim to say the least.

I found a GeForce 7950GT from Newegg, but I want to verify that it would be compatible.

Here's the Link

Sure, 7950's are hard to come by these days even though they aren't that old yet.

When they produced the 8 Series they pretty much stopped with the 7 series even though they were hot sellers. If you happen to get a 7950 hang on to it, they are very good cards for what you spend.

Anyways, looks like tiger Direct still has some.

The ones I got I don't think you can even get anymore.

I found another nVidia GeForce 7950 GT graphics card searching Tigerdirect, would this one be better to purchase than the card from Newegg that I found earlier?

Here is the card from Tigerdirect
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2918356&Sku=B52-7870&SRCCODE=YAHOODF&CMP=SPC-YAHOO

And the one from Newegg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814143090&ATT=14-143-090&CMP=OTC-yah00TT&cm_mmc=OTC-yah00TT-_-Video+Cards-_-BFG+Technologies-_-14143090

On a side note, when I order the assembled PC from Dell, should I just get the cheapest graphics card they offer then replace it when the GeForce 7950GT arrives?

P.S you can still get a EVGA GeForce 7950 GT KO SuperClocked 512MB at this site for $399.00USD (Pricey!), It's just on backorder at the moment.
