Leveling in WoW is much easier.
Less time consuming certainly, obviously getting 70 in WoW takes less time than in FFXI, but mobs aren't significantly more threatening. If you do a ratio of party wipes to time spent in a group I probably wiped more often in WoW than in FFXI.
You're right about this. I never thought about it. But a wipe in a pick up group in an instance is almost a given. Even with a strong raiding group its bound to happen most of the time. I mean yeah, a WoW DPS class will do 7k damage, but your talking about a boss mob with over a million hit points.
I have a friend that plays a self-server kinda thing, he can hack his characters on his own little server.
He play against illidan with godly amounts of dodge, and hitting illidan for over 50k damage (Point: This is impossible in actual wow) it still took him half an hour to kill illidian.
Yeah characters have more hit points, but you get hit for a hell of a lot more too.
Where hunter > BST imo is that a hunters pet is the equivalent of a full-flegged FFXI WAR. And the Hunter can heal that pet. I mean I rarely pull hate off my pet in WoW.
Even if you matched stats, a FFXI BST would never be able to beat a WoW Hunter. Hunters pets (beast master spec anyway) do a hell of a lot more than any BST pet.
Same with mage or warlock VS Black Mage.
Paladin would be about even I think. The only edge wow pally has is holy shield thanks to proc tree, but because of that, the wow pally could kite the ffxi pally around :P
Warlock > Summoner, BST, or PUP hands f*cking down.
I can't comment on dancer or the other new job since I quit before their release.
NIN would probably give Warrior (WoW) a run for its money though.
Preist > White mage
Holy Pally > White Mage
Priest > Red Mage
Druid > Just about every single FFXI job. (To clarify, Dire Bear form would destroy any FFXI Job)
