May be I am wrong or not paying attention in the past... But I seem to notice there has been a large increase of playing bard recently on our server.

Is this related to change of experience point caps? Or just people finally realize Bard rocks ;p?

Hmmm, maybe it's because of all the great tales they hear about your exploits, and they just wish to emulate your greatness.

Yeah, maybe that's it.

Or not. Smiley: wink2

For those who play regularly in Japanese hours, you do notice Bard is more popular within Japanese players.

I do agree with Shepppard that NA players like damage oriented jobs... the number of DRK, BLM, RNG proves that. JPs like shorter down time and chain 4 and 5s.

Partying with a Bard, not only requires a good Bard. It requires all party members to cooporate in terms of positioning and figuring skillchains. Lots of NAs are just spoiled with Refresh ;p (I love Refresh too as a WHM, but BRD can do just as well in that department when they are 55+)

I haven't noticed any increase in BRDs. If there was making parties would be simple, but I'm usually stuck for several hours trying to find a BRD or a RDM. PLDs though seemed to have jumped up in number, as they have become a dime a dozen.

maybe at your lvl, but in the 40s PLDs are VERY hard to come by.
And then you run the risk of getting PLDs who have no clue.

I love BRDS!!! We had a sweet party last night with a RDM and a BRD... NO WHM NEEDED ;-)

Bard's suck, i dont know what you all are raving at. Bards are slaves, not much fun, but who cares! they make your pt better! Bard is not a very self-satisfying job. Ranger says omg i did 2500, bard goes omg I landed Elegy! which would you prefer?
#12 Oct 26 2004 at 9:00 AM Rating: Decent
^^^

And you have one dead ranger and one live Bard. The OMG i landed 2500 dmg are the bad damage dealers I want to avoid like the plague. Good damage dealers know how to temper their damage and when to unleash.

And all the super uber attacks are no good if you are missing :p
#13 Oct 26 2004 at 10:46 AM Rating: Decent
Usually a 2500 sidewinder kills the mob, plus at lvl 75 Rangers have Utsusemi Ni to keep them from dying. At the time our tank was uber insane almost matching the rangers and drk in damage. Statues rool for xp, low defense ! but high attack ; ; Chain 5 with only drk and nin as DD? (Yes, please!) but yeah at other times doing TOO much dmg isn't good, thats why there is Trick Attack :D
Bards get thier share of dying while trying to sleep links too.
#14 Oct 26 2004 at 10:52 AM Rating: Decent
Oh too true, its not just the resisted sleeps (hardly ever happens now with my current charisma) but the dumb melees who decide they will fight both mobs at once instead of one at a time not understanding the huge amount of hate the bard has generated keeping it alseep.

#15 Oct 26 2004 at 11:45 AM Rating: Decent
I remember getting resists around lvl 50ish and they were horrible on Processionares until I got a light staff. But it's not uncommon to have a few links here and there especially when there are lots of parties competing for mobs; getting an extra and sleeping is nice option. Like in Boyahda tree fighting Darters i've seen up to 5 xp pts there at once. Despite what people think Bard songs do build alot of hate, ive died plenty at Fafnir for casting too many debuffs. Or when you cast Carnage Elegy when the puller missed his Ranged Attack on the pull and you get owned lol. Bards earn their xp, having to run around all crazy is lots of work, especially having to stand in EXACTLY the right place to hit the pld with ballad and not other melee, most bards can agree this is a major pain! but some of us enjoy being able to enact such bardly precision(Q_Q). You either love bard or you hate it, although i hate my lack of melee capability I do enjoy being able to make other people own.

Haha There is a Chinese saying,
"Pretend to be a pig and eat the tiger."

I think that what a Bard boils down to ;p To me, Bard is one of the best job to play, you are the secret weapon. You don't swing your sword or staff once, but others will magically own every mob that they are after.

I really hope I have the time to take Bard all the way. I hope I can do that sometime next year (about 1 year anniversry I started the game ^^)

I have a BRD in my SP, and she's great. I usually tend to mess up the positioning though, stupid mobs won't go where I tell them lol...

Eh, a good dmg dealer walks the hate line just enough. But sometimes you get a ws that hits *alittle* too much or a burst that goes too far and whatnot. It happens, you have a system, and when a crit/dbl attack or whatever happens, it offsets your groove.

Its times like that i do alil /panic and run my *** behind my pld. After all, they got cover for a reason right ^^;.
#19 Oct 30 2004 at 6:08 PM Rating: Decent
I think i would prefer saying "OMG i landed elegy AND requim on a IT++++ mob" than 2500 damage...

Then again im a galka bard so... im a chr *****

I eat cavier for gods sake >< cus i dont have opo opo crown :(

Maybe banigaru can help me with getting last pieces wyvern skull and lucky egg (has a nice friendly thf too that wants both aswell)

however there is nothing worse for a party than a bad bard nothing compares to this... IMO. Brd = less downtime not more ><

People realize that level 40 Bards who devote a fair amount of their time to BCNMs stance to make a load of money.

correct me if im wrong, but a couple months ago mary's horn sold for 40k tops? Now it sells for 100k+?
#22 Nov 03 2004 at 7:23 AM Rating: Decent
you are wrong (and I mean this politely), Mary's Horn has always been between 100k and 120k, at least for the past 8 months or so it has.
#23 Nov 03 2004 at 7:48 AM Rating: Decent
Actually, Mary's horn was around 150k for the longest time. I dont ever check it because i have all my horns but I remember first starting out it was only 30-50 k in bastok and it was 100k in jeuno for a very long time. Honestly I think this horn is way over rated. I usually forget to put this in my inv from my mog house and I never have a problem sleeping things. I really haven't noticed a large increase in number of bards but I do know quite a few. Many people only level bard to 40 for bcnm when i think that there are enough bards that doing that is silly. I personally dislike BCNM40 and the Sacrificial Chamber bc 60 is much better. Also BC70 kicks much booty.

More a question...

Do you need the laterns to the BC60 Sacrifical Chambers?

Finally, I will be getting the paintbrush today. When I did z4, somebody else have the laterns and paintbrush.
