Choco Races...Kweh!Follow

#1 Nov 17 2004 at 5:28 PM Rating: Excellent
A long post...and proposal.

Recently my linkshell has been running a few well planned, very well sponsored Chocobo races. The idea is pretty simple, place your bets on a Chocobo racer, minimum of 2k. Have all the Chocobo riders meet in a designated area, with no one knowing the finish destination until the beginning of the race. Whoever wins, gets some of the money bet on them, and the rest is split amongst those that bet on the winning racer. This has worked out very well in the past for our linkshell, however, the races are always rather small, consisting of up to 4 racers. I was thinking, wouldnt it be more fun and more of a gamble (thus increasing the winnings) if there were up to 12 racers? And an unlimited number of bettors? A few rules would obviously have to be made, and the only problem I could forsee is one of trust. You would have to be willing to hand over 2k+ gil to one person, and trust that they wont just leave with the money, however if you really think about it, if one person runs off with all the gil...i cant imagine they would ever get a pt, or even remain not flamed for the rest of their gaming career. ANYWAYS!

*2k Gil Bet Minimum, All bets will be tallied and accounted for, collected by 1-3 people, then pooled amd distributed at the end of the race. All bets can be made in-game, or through PlayOnline's mail system, both very good ways i think.

*12 Racers maximum, with all racers confirming the at least the day before that they will be able to race. (If a racer announces that he is unable to race, all money collected for that racer will be returned to those that bet on him, in the event of a no-show, all money would also be returned.)

*Winnings are divided 80/20, Bets/Racer, and then distributed evenly amongst the winning bets. If multiple winners are desired (ex. 1st 2nd 3rd) Winnings will be divided accordingly.

*All Bets Close 2 Days Prior To Race.

*Once the race starts, no refunds will be issued, if a racer drops, D/C's gets lost, or is otherwise unable to finish the race, its counted as a loss for him, nothing aside from extreme circumstances will result in a refund. (Ex. All racers d/c)

*Hostile racing is totally allowed ^.^, but no non-racer interference is allowed. It may not seem like it, but a small taru stepping in front of a choco does slow it down...so none of that buisiness hah. But chocobos running in front of other chocos to steer them or slow them down, absolutley allowed, in fact, encouraged, adds flavor to the race.

*A minimum of 3 Judges at the end of the race, randomly chosen the day before, and informed of the location of the finish line, so that the judging could be fair, and if there is a dispute, a 2/3 majority is required to finish it.

*Spectating is allowed, so long as it is passive, non-invasive spectating, (personally i think it would be better for spectators to be waiting at the finish line, with a few designated reporters shouting positions as they go. (Which gives me another idea)

Although I am not on your server, i would love the idea of hearing tales of chocobo races throughout the servers. If no ones interested, the thread will fade, no harm no foul ^^

I realize i took a long time with this, and appreciate anyone who takes the time to read it. Kweh!!!

Racers will rent chocobos in Windurst Woods, and line up outside next to the starting line referees, who will signal the start once everyone has zoned in and lined up on chocobo.

(Anyone seen as deliberately (refereee's discretion) delaying the start by messing around, so as to waste the time of those who got on chocobo earlier, will be disqalified.)

Racers attempt to be the first person to reach the West gate of Southern Sandoria, as determined by the judges present at the finish line.

Teleporting/warping is not allowed.

A paid or volunteer referee will be stationed at each location along the way where it is possible to teleport/warp to and rent another chocobo, to observe that none of the registered racers does so.

These locations include Mea Crag, Holla Crag, possibly Dem Crag,
as well as the Chocobo stables in Port Jueno, Lower Jeuno, and Upper Jueno, as well as the chocobo stable in Southern Sandoria.

Winner recieves 10k.

Edit: Forgot to add, there is a debate about whether Chocobo riding gear should be allowed. Personally, I feel it either needs to be categorically disallowed, or provided to every participant. Either way, it is possible to make it from Windy to Sandy in the 30 minutes of time you get normally.
Knowing the best shortcuts, and how to avoid common terrain problems is essential, but entirely possible.

I think he was being serious Damascus. Honestly, I think it sounds like a really cool thing to do. I like anything that can bring together people of our server, and isn't job lvl specific. It's fun to get away from leveling every now and then. Plus, I think it's really great that you decided to share a great idea with other servers, instead of just your own!
This one definitely deserves a /rate up.

Also, Tenmiles, whenever you decide to do this, let me know. I'd be more than happy to help making whatever arrangements, or fill in wherever needed for free.

Good Show Good Show! This is a good idea and adds flavor the game that comes directly from the people that pay for it. Tons of respect everyone that can come together and make it happen!

    Good Luck~!

That sounds fun! I love racing, and something like this would really make this game a whole lot more entertaining. Have you considered making a ls purely for running these races periodically? If so, I want in ^^
