Damn it, I remembered yesterday was New Comic Book Day, but I forget that includes manga again.
Though, after reading the regularly scheduled shlop, I'm not sure if I'm annoyed because I forgot yesterday, or if its because I remembered at all. Itachi explains the Infinite Loop Error no Jutsu, Ichigo finally finished his lunch and decided to act, and Nami continues being bounced from one body to the next. I foresee that as a running gag for the rest of the storyline. Oh, and Luffy is the kind of person on Facebook that accepts all Friend Requests, but that is hardly a secret.
And the entrance into the Witch's World of Soul Eater is through Loli Butts. I can't start Toriko because between Marvel/DC comics and weekly manga, I'm trying to keep track of like a dozen different storylines and they're already starting to bleed together. Adding one more long *** book is just going to make it that much more difficult. Maybe once Bleach finally ends I'll replace it with Toriko.
Eh, you could probably replace bleach with toriko now, and then after bleach is done, go back and finish it all in one go, and never have to touch it again. Saves you the hassle of dealing with the weekly wait between kubo's trolling, and the bi-monthly wait between actual story, and also lets you enjoy a series that is something like the amazing love child of all the good traits of One Piece and the Food Network, sans pirates, but with a dash of Dragon Ball Z, and just a pinch of Fist of the North Star.
Basic explanation of what I mean, for those who haven't looked at it at all:
The series revels in absurdity, taking itself about as seriously as One Piece, and only sort of sticks to the modern shounen plot structure; Toriko is basically the love child of Kenshiro and Son Goku, with Natsu's sense of smell (probably stronger) and Luffy's general disposition, but actually possessing a decent level of intelligence (Also he's ******* massive. 220cm/230kg; ~7'3", ~507lbs of muscle). Of course, he eats a metric ******** and the generic shounen hero black-hole stomach is used as a decent plot point, being a food based series and all (if he fasts, his body will start eating itself. The thing is that fasting for toriko is not eating for a few
hours), and one of my personal favorite points of the series is that rather than "ki" or "power levels" or "mana" or whatever, they basically approximate how strong something is by how many calories using it burns. You know, sort of like how when normal people do ****, it burns calories. Of course, because this is shounen we're not talking thousands of calories per attack, we're talking thousands of kilocalories (his strongest attack so far used 1,000,000 kilocalories...
). Toriko's job is basically, go around the world and find/fight/capture/mcguyver the rarest, most difficult to find (and most delicious) food ingredients.
Oh, and there's the other protagonist/toriko's sidekick/partner, Komatsu, the chef who travel's with Toriko, is a really perfect balance to toriko's outrageousness. Komatsu's the same age as Toriko, but is like... half toriko's size (155cm/51kg; ~5'1", ~112lbs), and aside from his astounding culinary skills and sometimes unbelievable luck (it's to the point that the other characters comment on it and occasionally use it to their advantage), he's 100% average joe with no fighting ability at all, gets scared ******** in situations that would normally scare someone ********* and though a whiney crybaby, is equally endearing for his passion towards respecting the ingredients he uses and making sure everything he cooks tastes as good as it possibly can. In a series full of outrageously powerful superhumans who get stronger when they eat delicious things, he's pretty much the only main character who doesn't have the series's mandated super power. Also, he's ******* hysterical, and has to play the straightman/saneman to pretty much everything absurd that goes on around him.
Imo, the series is phenomenal, and the storytelling, characters, humor, and even art style, are all significantly better than anything I've ever seen from Naruto or Bleach. Though I may also be biased because it managed to make vegetables sound delicious so effortlessly with a
single item that I haven't stopped loving it since.
