Rules of the party?Follow

#1 May 17 2006 at 11:22 AM Rating: Decent
Yesterday for the first time I joined a party of people to help grind out some experience points. All was good until I had to leave. One of the partymembers starts demanding I find a replacement before I exit.

I ask all of you, what is the general rule of thumb when leaving a party? Is it fair play to find a replacement before one exits a party? I'm not here to ruin the experience for anyone on FFXI but I have a real life behind the game. If I ever have to leave the game quickly while in a party am I just going to continually upset people - possibly ruining any chance of using them within a party again? Any thoughts on this?

Thanks!

In most situations when leaving a party, one of two things happens. You should ask the party and/or leader about what to do. Either:

1) You tell the party you have to go and ask if you should find a replacement. Either the leader might find someone themself, or you'll be in charge of doing so.

2) The party agrees to disband at a certain time, because other people have to go soon too.

If something irl happens suddenly that makes you have to leave asap, you should try to explain this urgency to the group. Nothing long and drawn out. Just "oh **** wife aggro, g2g really sorry". But honestly I don't see why this should be the case in most times. You should be responsible enough to manage time between game + rl so these situations aren't commonplace.

There are some people that will never understand and they'll throw a fit every time. But these aren't the people you want to hang out with anyway. Others as long as they don't see you ditching parties quickly often, will be fine with it for the most part. A lot of people understand this is just a game and understand that some things happen outside of it you cannot control. Stick with those people and your game experience will be better.

Normally if you're going to leave a party, regardless of whether or not you can find a replacement just let them know how long it is until you have to go and that is fair enough.

For me personally, I always give a 20-30 min notice to my party members before I have to leave as a courtesy to them. I try to find a replacement, but If I can't, at least they know *when* I'm leaving.

So yeah, you can consider it a common courtesy. Real life always takes priority over ffxi. If you have to leave immediately for an emergency, just say so. They shouldn't have any problem with that. I remember when I was a lower level when our tank had to leave right away because he was an EMS. So of course lol. Hope this helps, and best of luck to you :)

This does help. Thanks. I was in my first party yesterday. After several hours in this party I decided it was time to leave. This kid starts yelling at me to find a repacement. Now, I'm a bit new at this game and really had no idea how to find a replacement at the time. When I asked about how to find a replacement a few just scoffed at me for not knowing. Finally somone pitched in and assisted me.

I'm sure leaving a part will go smoother next time. FFXI has treated me quite excellent with that one exception.

Thanks for the input!

I wouldn't say its a rule but is certainly a nice thing to do. That said sometimes you just cant' find a replacement and you have to put your foot down and say "Guys its been a blast I've been looking for XXmin now and don't see anyone and I have got to go, later" and leave. 98% of the population or so will be understanding of this, the last 2% usually are the type that would ask you to stay up till 4am when you have work a 7am and get mad when you say no.

Yup Nothing is a big deal unless you make it a big deal.

Real life issues come first for me.. but this dosen't happen often. So I just say "gotta go so sorry"

About 20 minutes before I go i say "I gotta go, do you want a replacment" couse if I just go get one, and replacement shows up, we disband well... that sucks for the replacment.

I like to make sure there is one needed and atleast on the way before I leave a party. If a replacment is comming stay 5min or leave and say replacment on the way, replacment is such and such.

Keep it real, keep the party alive!

I hate replacements! I like the way JPs do this. When someone leaves they all go back to jeuno and regroup. I also dont like to be the replacement because 20 minutes later someone has to go again and its time to look for another replacement or the pt disbands. Whenever someone is going to leave the pt, I just say i have to go too because sometimes there is no sense in looking for a replacement at 2 A.M.

I was asked to leave a party after I lvl'd up. The thing is, there was already a lvl 33 in the party before i hit my lvl; 33! They said "wow thats going to kill our exp". The really messed up thing is I actually started the party but gave up the lead to a person more familiar with the area. I had been lvl'ng in yutunga and everyone wanted to go to Yhator jungle.(sorry abt sp?) I gave up the lead willingly, then got asked to leave. WTF! The reason I guess that I'm so bitter is I had no map, and no idea how to get back. I asked a random person for help and he almost got me out but I got aggro from 3 gob smithys, and lost more than half the exp I had just gained in that lamest of lame pt! Sorry Petra of Shiva, but I have to call you out on this, that was pretty sorry :<

2 options:

1. you know you're going to leave soon, 30 minute warning is usually the best way to go

2. something important came up, let them know something important came up and that you need to leave now

some people are just ***** and just leave without saying anything, or go afk without notice. these people you want to avoid

I'm happier with people just letting the leader know they're leaving and when ... be it 5, 10, or 30 minutes in advance.

I really hate having some noob find his own replacement that shows up and is 3 levels higher or 3 levels lower than the rest of the party or some job that just won't work with the current party setup.

Eryvinim,do you mean "noob" as in someone who is new to the game and in all fairness does not have a firm grasp of the mechanics needed for an effective party? If so try helping them out to find a correct replacement. They just might listen to kind instruction and know what to do next time. The learning process has to start from somewhere..

dont listen to technofire he thinks thf/nin is a tank.....

my two cents, this is a case of the blind leading the blind. nation rank and higest level job sadly mean nothing anymore thanks to the people who sell there accounts. all i couild realy tell you is if something doesnt seem right it probaly isnt

give it time, soon you will be able to find a rp (if any) in mere seconds, as you learn the commands. rule of thumb though is always give at least a 15 minute warning to your party. also, you will, over time, start to know what jobs are suitable to replace you, and that will help.

What i mostly do when i must leave a party (for example) in 15 minutes:

15 minutes before i leave:

Tell boss: Im looking for replacement, ill tell you when i found someone.

/sea all whm "lvl"
Ask a replacement whm and tell that person why i have to leave.
If he disagree i try to search again.
If he agree i tell it directly to the party master:
Tell boss: replacement is on his way. Ill leave when he is here :)

When i must go away or afk for a long time i just say to the party master:

Im really srry but (i explain what happend).
If you wanna kick me from party and find another whm then it is ok.
Thank you for the great party :)

Think its always important to watch how much time you have before you seek a party. If something suddenly happends then you just have to tell the party leader about what happend. If it is private, just say that.
When i suddenly left from party i also /tell him when im back online to tell how it all did go. Most party leaders are really happy when you do that and reinvite you when they make a new party :)
