Can someone tell me how chocobo prices are generated. Sometimes a chocobo only costs me 60gil and today a chocobo cost me 1200gil. It doesn't seem to be by nationality or conquest because even though I'm San d'Orian, Windy is often cheaper than Sandy for me. It just seems very erratic. Does anyone know how this works?

i always thought that it had something to do with Maintence things.
When PlayOnline have maintence and you can get back ingame later you see that the choco-prices are really low. After a few weeks they are expensive so i think that the chocobo prices depends on how many ppl have bought a chocobo there since the last maintence.
The more ppl bought a chocobo at a place, the more you must pay.

Not sure about this all but thats what i think.

Supply and Demand. The more people and more frequent chocobo's are purchased from a stable the more it costs. The one at Mea is always the most expensive because that takes you to Sky, B.Tree, Mhaura for ToAU and back to Windy itself. Port Jeuno can also be a bit expensive because that's how you head to Citadel, sky and B.Tree. Most others are fairly cheap because they're not rented from as often. Which is why you can usually run to Upper jeuno and get a 1-300 gil bird when Port is 1-2k.
