Is it just me or does nobody do skillup parties on Shiva anymore? The last one I got into I got 3 points in an hour or so (Great Axe) and everyone left after the party leader got the WS points he needed.

Ever since then (it's been a week) I've made it a point to join the first 200+ skillup party I'd see, and I haven't seen any. What makes it worse is having to check 3-4 different areas now for people shouting since people hang around Aht Urghan Whitegate and Lower Jeuno for things like this.

I'd be interested in skilling up sometime. 75brd ftw (75mnk too, but nothing there I wanna skill up on).

Few things though. Easily summed up in >>This<< from the bard forums.

Basically, try to remain as self-sufficient as possible. Wariors generally have it easy, /nin pwns. But there are others who aren't as intelligent. Remember, it's a skill up party, TRY to keep monster alive as long as possible. Even on Steelshells, most melee have high enough damage that keeping Defender up works, you really don't want to do anything over 1 damage anyway. WS's should primarily be kept to only those working on WS points. If you must WS, use your least damaging one. As bard, that pretty much leaves all my options open, even then, I don't WS much at all. Things like Berserker, Warcry, SATA, are out of the question, you wanna keep things alive. Even having a lower level weapon is fine, if not great. I'd smack a war who's skilling up with a Berserker's Axe, when a Heavy Axe would probably be better. Keeping it alive, don't forget it! Goes for mages too, if you're skilling up magic, keep away from DoT's (especially Dia) if you can. Bio is acceptable, considering if you need to level Dark, it's really hard with 1min timers on Aspir, even Stun isn't too great. Of course keep only to Bio, low hp/tick damage, low recast, low damage.

Again, skill up parties are for everybody. You can't expect mages to do nothing but spam cures all day. If they wanted an xp party, they would be in one (or lfp at least). My buffs take 8 seconds to cast, keeping up the 2 song limit means I spend 16 seconds casting. I have a "two song rule". Usually Paeon+Ballad. Special requests like preludes, etudes are right out. If you need Madrigal means you aren't high enough to be skilling up on whatever we're fighting. Sushi exists for a reason. Minuet is counter-productive. If somebody takes a 500 TP Attack, of course mages will (should) cure them.

There is no shame in subbing /whm or /rdm in a skill up party. Remember, NOT EXP. Those 20xp you get at the end aren't your goal, those 0.1's are. Self-suffiency ftw, if you're embarrassed about being a drk/whm or a thf/rdm, go /anon, I won't tell >.>

Anyway, I know this is kind of a rant. But I've been in too many skillup parties with some drk/thf spamming Guillotines when he's "trying" to level Dark Magic, or war leveling g.axe for Maat fight using his "omfg Berserker's Axe I just boughted for t3h occasion", with Berserk on, and using Raging Rush every 100tp. Then every single mage getting 3 hits in because the rest of the time is "Haste please, cure please, this please, That [Can I have it?]" then needing to rest for MP, and having nothing to show for it.

I have a weekly skillup currently scheduled on Wednesdays around 8:30 pm CST. Attendance varies, and I allow usage of NPCs as long as total participants (w/ NPC) doesn't go beyond 8 people. All the other rules from Poki's post are applicable - self-sufficiency FTW.

Right now we're still on Robber Crabs, but I am hoping to move onto steelshells in another couple of weeks. Alternatively, I'd be willing to try to setup a 2nd night if there's enough interest. Currently club is 192 and staff is 176.

Feel free to send a tell, PM, or come look for us in the Tree.

Actually my Great Axe is at 250 now, so robber crabs won't cut it.

I agree with you on weaponskills though. The only one I would ever use in a skillup pt is Shield Break to help everyone land hits better.

I was in a BLM testimony hunting party with my Axe of Trials (Great Axe) and a MNK was doing Asuran Fists, and I kept trying to land Full Break for Darkness but a WAR/NIN leveling his dagger in off-hand (main handed an axe...) kept interrupting it with Rampage.

D2 me please. Thank you.
