New Final Fantasy online???Follow

#1 Jan 12 2007 at 10:30 AM Rating: Decent
Hey all, i was today at the electronic/game shop Dixons in my city.
I asked the shopguy there when FFXII would be in the Netherlands but he didnt know it yet. He was asking me if it was a online version so i said that it isnt.
After that he said that he asked me that cause Square-Enix is busy with a new Final Fantasy Online game and he didnt know what number it would be.
So my question is now:

Does anyone know if Square-Enix is really busy with a new FF online, if you know it, please give me some info.

thx all

I think you are talking about Fantasy Earth, which SE has been talking about for more than 2 years now without a release date being announced.

There have been rumors for a long time of Square making a sequel to Final Fantasy XI that would inevitably be on PS3, Xbox 360, and of course the PC. It's definitely gonna come eventually, no MMO lasts forever... I'm betting there will only be one more expansion pack for this game. I remember reading once that this game had 1.5 million subscribers and the 2006 census claimed 500,000. So I'm sure they are going to make sure the next game can at least come close to competing with World of Warcraft.

So, are you saying that they are going to lower the production and graphics quality, make it so that any fool with a controller can hit max level in a week and make it so your character can do dances that have no bearing on game-play but look cool as hell?

A new MMORPG is on the way....supposedly.

It is NOT Final Fantasy Earth!

Here is what I have found

FFInsider
SpirasDestiny
Game Spot
Magic Box

Make your mind up for yourself...but I am hoping it is true...a brand new world/economy uncorrupted and full of the impossible final fantasy challenges we've all grown to love.

Oh and rate me up for doing all this searching...it was a PITA to find stuff that was believable, not just rumor in blogs and forums lol

No I just think they will make it more accessible (which by the way has NOTHING whatsoever to do with production and graphics quality) Accessible doesn't necessarily have to mean easy. You're being far too extreme with that example. It can just mean:

*Not stopping people from being able to start together and play on the same server without having to beg strangers for a World Pass, unless you just happen to have RL friends on the server, which doesn't happen to everyone.

*Making the game a little bit more inviting to people who like to solo sometimes.

*Making more gear/items available in shops, preventing people from saving up gil, to then find out that the item they've been saving up for is no longer in the AH or someone has priced it way above the price history.

That's just a few examples of things that I think could make it more inviting to new people, which would reduce the number of subscribers they lose to other MMO's!

Well what i want is seperate language servers, cos that's the biggest thing that lets FFXI down. It is impossible to get parties when the main language is not your own. WoW doesn't suffer from this, and the benefits are obvious. Lets face it, FFXI is geared to Japan and the US. They don't give a frig for the rest of the world. WoW is equally geared for the entire world. It does make a difference... There is little to no marketing for FFXI in europe and the game is not 'friendly' for us either. It was rather short sighted of SE to dismiss europe liek that. In the long run they ahve lost out a lot and its the main reason why so many Europeans choose WoW over FF. We all know which has the higher amount of players...

Kind of interesting how SE has been talking for years about a next generation MMORPG only to scrap the the first project in favor of a console release for the their new project. Maybe they don't want to compete with the other newer and more popular PC platform MMORPG's anymore. I wouldn't be suprised if they planned all along to use PS2 and Xbox releases of FFXI as a starting point for their plan to make it big in the console MMORPG market and leave the PC behind.

We'll see. For now this is the game we'll play until SE and their partner in crime Sony have everybody buying a Playstation 3. They are probably hoping for WoW kind of revenue without having to compete with WoW. $_$

Some thoughts by some of SE's top guys in charge, with thoughts on WoW and future expansions.

It was buried under mountains of R0 threads so most ppl missed it if your curious.
